  • An Update To GoPro's Short Interest [View article]
Good luck with this. You're right that it's certainly a different trading environment than when it went public last year. There's a lot more information and less guessing now and it seems to me that the stock is probably in a fairly reasonable price range this time. And the end-of-lockup was a dud. I will probably forget this one and stick to shorting the truly nutty 'over 100% in a day' stuff (VLTC, OHGI, PTBI, CERE etc) that comes along.

As for a short squeeze it only happens when the valuation starts to become rational such as we saw in mid-April. That is, you need shorts to net cover without new shorts re-selling those very same shares. As this moves higher I suspect that when the next short interest report comes out the drop in short interest will have stabilized and possibly ticked up again.

Joe, always like your fair-minded articles even when we're playing on opposite teams. I haven't shorted GPRO in months but it seems to me that you're drawing the wrong conclusions from the rapid decline in short interest. Short interest is latent buying power and from that pov about 1/3rd, or 6M shares of buying went into the raising of the stock from 45 to 50 between Apr 15th - May 15th. It's used up. It's very unlikely that much of the remaining short interest will get covered now that the stock's about 17% higher (45 --> 57) than when the covering began and in fact I would expect the short interest to start rising again.

As for Days to Cover be it 2 days, or 4 days, it's very short, not much, and the stock remains highly liquid. That's not going to factor into decisions whether to go or remain short.

I have no position as yet but if the stock starts drifting into the 60's it'll definitely get my attention.

If there were any validity to the awesome spectacular future that lies ahead with CRMD they wouldn't have to go it alone in P3. They wouldn't have had to look for an outfit to try to sell themselves to a bigger company. They would have a deal already.

The rest is hype. As always where's the money?

That sounds like a really credible rumor coming from 'rumorsugu' posting his very first comment on SA. I heard a slightly more credible rumor that Michael Jackson was secretly cloned before he died and will perform at next year's Super Bowl.

btw- only a fool would gamble in Vegas to actually make money. As you very well know the odds guarantee the success of the house. OTOH when trading with, or against the momos, if you know what you're doing you get great odds and you can really clean up.

If you think that 85M shares traded on Weds just because knowing traders read the news, analyzed the import, and then rushed in to buy the stock then you're just fooling yourself. I understand the desire to consider a 1,300% rise in two days as confirmation of your long thesis but all it confirms is that momos tend to chase each other into, and out of, these stocks.

The people who don't understand the system tend to be the ones feeding money into it which is something we whole-heartedly welcome.

So yes, with these little no-prospect penny stocks that no one's ever heard of (or they wouldn't be penny stocks!) it is indeed a game. Either you're good at it (I've been quite successful since '99) or you're not.

You do realize that the inflation in these stock prices is due to momo daytraders piling into whatever seems to be the most irrational stock movement du jour. No one has any idea what they are worth - though certainly not 100% or 300% or 600% greater than what it was worth last week - so it becomes a game of musical chairs and greater fools.

It's a game and should not be taken seriously except as a possible huge gain, or hole, in your portfolio depending on your luck and skill.

Aristides how does one go about finding 144 filings? They don't appear on CRMD's Edgar filings.

  • Rave Restaurant Group: Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities And Threats [View article]
Raider I learned a long time ago that growing revenues - and rather slowly I'd add - while being unprofitable doesn't often lead to the promised land. When I started trading there were all kinds of new dotcoms that were measured by revenues, or if that was lacking eyeballs (page views), while running negative OPC's. This was all fine until they arrived at their collective demise.

RAVE same-store comps (+9.5%) do not suggest a product which is growing by leaps and bounds. Rather it's predictable that there's a pickup for the first year as a new restaurant gets known.

The time to buy RAVE would have been at 6.00 but now I think it's much too late.

Douglas how many different abuse-deterrent opiods are being pursued simultaneously besides those already approved? I mean just count the numbers from three years ago . . .

Every quarter it's 'wait til next quarter!' Momos have bid RAVE up 150% and still they makes not a cent. This is behavior seen in late bull markets when considerations of risk or fundamentals go out the window and are seen as old-fashioned thinking and impediments to successful trading (see: 'Raider Bob').

  • Giga-Tronics Provides Upside Potential [View article]
Yeah just like DGLY, CAPN, etc (as in NOT).

Predictably GIGA reported more losses for 4Q (-25c), losses for the entire year (-32c), but to cushion the blow they chose to announce a new $10M order at the same time. Naturally unthinking momos jumped all over this driving the stock up 50% overnight but the one thing they didn't notice is that it's a 'multi-year' order, ie- just business as usual. Revenues won't even begin to be recognized for another year!

'Giga-tronics Incorporated announced today that it has finalized a $10.0 million multi-year production order of high performance YIG filters for a major aerospace company. The Company expects to start shipments for this order in August 2016, and continue shipments through early 2019. '

From a sort of fantasy literature pov this all makes sense. From a results pov not so much.

But then a 600% runup based on the kind of hype bandied about here sure looked overbaked.

Hope everyone took advantage of the one-day spike to short or transfer bags to new holder. Definitely a winner in that regard.
