  • DryShips: Don't Give Up At The Bottom [View article]
There have been numerous such articles and sentiments as voiced by Economou over the past few years. If investors adopt a "keep trying, the cycle is near bottom" approach - they will get it right sometime or the other. And, of course, the longer you wait the greater the possiblity of getting it right...Perhaps you are right this time round.

  • FreeSeas Offers Unique Opportunity For Potentially Massive Profits [View article]
To say "my thesis was always a long thesis - i.e., multi-years" - seems to be a bit of a cop-out.

Multi-year is fine - as long as you have a ball-park figure as to how many years you are referring to.

    1,3,5,10...15 ,25 years?

Without at least some sort of boundary the thesis is of little use.

    The way I see it:
    1) Shipping is a complete mess with rampant oversupply.
    2) The Chinese government is subsidizing their shipyards in order to avoid social unrest and millions of suddenly unemployed people.
    3) Hence ship builoding orders are still pumping in.
    4) After a year of relative quiet coming up perhaps now - the new-buildings will start hitting the water again.

    Solution?
Stay away... Far away till there is some clear stability and clarity.
If one has to pass up on any initial early share price gains for this safety - so be it.

  • For These Dry Shipping Stocks, The Ugly Crash Is Just Starting [View article]
    ramisle:
Love most of your astute, insightful and pragmatic comments.
Being involved in shipping myself for a long while - I can vouch for the fact that this shipping bust is the worst we have seen in many decades.

Folks using all these indicators as some sort of "proof" of a revival in shipping are for the most part simply following the noise.

Shipping will turn eventually. Not sure when - A year,2 ,3 from now?
Till then it is a pure trading game.
    Follow the trend.

  • Changing Tides: Global Shipping Is Setting Up For A Ferocious Bull Run [View article]
"Many companies ceased operations, unable to recover from bankruptcies and failing to retain their assets. The surviving shipping companies now have fewer competitors to deal with. When supply exceeds demand, the end result is a clear line being drawn between winners and losers. It's the market's way of thinning the herd. Therefore, for those shippers left standing, even if it is on shaky ground, future conditions should help to provide more sure footing."

The "problem" is that most of the ships are still there. And will be in the water for years to come - Unless scrapped. Bankrupt companies reduce the number of competitors but not the number of ships- which is where the real problem lies.
