  • More on Apple: The WSJ reports Apple is "in early discussions" to integrate Foursquare's data within Apple Maps. No word on whether they're just talking about Foursquare's check-in data (unmatched), or also its reviews/ratings data (not the case). TechCrunch recently speculated an Apple-Foursquare deal could arrive, given signs the companies are drawing closer. Apple reviews/check-in partner Yelp (YELP), which fell today on a Facebook product revamp, could fall some more. Also: one source claims Steve Jobs thought Apple could compete with Google in local search. [View news story]
I only use yelp to get a phone number or address. I never read or consider the reviews any longer because their filter paints an inaccurate and picture of a business.

Hopefully the Apple + Foursquare partnership will take place.

  • As Web Traffic Declines, Yelp Spends $2 To Earn 90 Cents [View article]
If you owned a company that failed to make a profit for8 years, your spouse, relatives, friends, and just about everyone else would tell you to get a job.

Jeremy Stoppelman sold off 10,365 of his yelp shares on 10/2/12. So this to me shows that he is losing confidence in his own company.

  • Yelp (YELP -10.9%) has plunged after delivering a Q3 beat and in-line Q4 guidance. The fact sales/marketing expenses totaled 58.5% of revenue, and revenue per new business account fell 11%, is likely raising fresh concerns about the operating leverage in Yelp's business model. Yelp noted on its earnings call its mobile apps were used on 8M devices/month in Q3, up from 7.2M in Q2. Total monthly unique visitors rose 7% Q/Q and 37% Y/Y to 83.5M - the Y/Y growth rate is down from Q2's 52%. Mobile site ad pricing is said to be similar to PC ad pricing, and ads will be rolled out on Yelp's apps by the end of Q4. [View news story]
Jeremy Stoppelman CEO of Yelp is a real winner. Well, no, not really. This man runs a company that not only thrives on negative attention, but refuses to respond to legitimate concerns.

I am not sure how he can sleep at night knowing that he is running such a joke of a company.

Don't take my word for it. See here for yourself what others are saying about this company:

If any of Yelp's investors or advertisers are reading this, I urge you to immediately pull out of Yelp while you still can. You do not want to be associated with a company that is being run in such a reckless manner. Yelp is a company with no core values. No core - period. Like an onion. Peel away the layers, and you'll never get to the core. I can honestly say that I do not think Yelp will be around much longer. Jeremy obviously does not care about doing the right thing. He is unethical and unprofessional.

  • Yelp - Bubbles Swell Before They Burst [View article]
Can someone please answer these 2 questions about yelp for me?

1- How come yelp does not have an independent panel of software engineers (a third party that is completely unbiased) verify that their filtering "algorithm" is truly unbiased? If there's nothing to hide, then I think this shouldn't be a problem.

2- why do they hide the filtered reviews tab on the bottom of the page, and not on top, next to the other menu choices? And why the captcha code? What purpose does this serve?

    Thank you in advance.

  • Yelp (YELP -6.4%) has had a roller-coaster ride over the last two days. Shares took off yesterday following the Qype acquisition and Facebook's Q3 numbers, but are doing the opposite today. Patent troll Blue Calypso announced it's suing Yelp today, but Yelp is just one of many targets. Possible reasons for volatility: short interest is heavy, a handful of insiders (eligible to sell) own the bulk of outstanding shares, and Q3 results arrive on Nov. 1. [View news story]
