  • This just in. Precious metals (GLD +2.2%), (SLV +2.6%) are sharply higher on the session after a panicky Sunday evening plunge brought both to multi-year lows. Other than dollar weakness (UUP -0.5%) across the board, there's no news in particular - perhaps some satiated bears decided to cover and a trend took hold. [View news story]
I like junior minors but like the etf to avoid individual company risk....GDXJ pays a nice dividend too!

  • Dividend Stocks On Sale As The Market Hits New Highs [View article]
As a warning to other investors about QCOR....there is one negative I do know of....investigation into marketing practices by district attorney, read other articles in SA about QCOR. I think it is a wonderful company, good solid dividend, nice growth, etc. I think that QCOR is so solid, even if fined for illegal marketing practices probably will add more to position. Seems like fine, if any will likely be a slap on the wrist and company keeps growing. Just want other investors to be aware.

    Long QCOR

  • Linn Energy (LINE) CEO Mark Ellis disputes the assertion in the negative Barron's article that its units may be worth far less than the current quote: "We've had three different analyses done... None of the valuations [is] anywhere close to what was represented over the weekend in the Barron's article." LINE plans to raise its dividend ~6.2% this year, not cut it. LINE +1%, LNCO +1.3% premarket. [View news story]
Usually when management increases the dividend they are very confident, particularly for stocks that are known for their stable dividend payout such as LINE. Either management is totally wrong and misguided OR Barron is not correct and taking into account LINE's recent acquistions etc. I am betting on LINE's management and consistent divident (and increasing).

  • Vodafone (VOD) is unlikely to settle a $2.6B tax dispute with the Indian government for "at least another year," the FT reports. India's finance minister had stated in January he expected a deal by April. The tax dispute is just one of several issues where Vodafone and the government are at odds. Meanwhile, Spain's telecom regulator is thinking of fining Vodafone a relatively modest $2.6M for not adhering to EU roaming tariff rules. [View news story]
This tax issue with Indian government is a concern but a relatively "small" problem when you consider VZ trying to buy back wireless stake for 100 BILLION+ from VOD.

  • Linn Energy And Berry Petroleum: 2 Companies For The Price Of 1 [View article]
I really like the timing of the repeat story by Barron's...flashed early across my screen this morning just before markets open. Stock traded ex-dividend today. Just really seems like someone wanted to make a killing today by shorting LINE. That seems like a good play....Hype some negative story again and do it right before market on ex-div. day. No surprise many people getting duped out of their LINE and LNCO shares. If someone is manipulating they deserve some jail time.

  • The Best Eagle Ford Acreage Is On Sale With This Company [View article]
    THANK YOU richjoy403

Interesting article and explains why BBL and BHP exist separately. However clearly BBL is superior for U.S. investors like myself...

"BHP Billiton Plc ADRs provide a superior return for U.S. investors, having outperformed BHP Billiton Ltd ADRs by 26% over the 20-year investment period."

thanks for the heads up about tax...I am long BBL and happily adding more at these levels. Also not sure why but BHP has a 3.4% yield vs. BBL has a 4% yield according to Yahoo. So why a U.S. investor would buy BHP vs. BBL I don't know (same company but less tax for BBL). Anyone have a reason for BHP vs. BBL ???

To the author: VERY nice informative article....I was aware of BBL's purchase or U.S. oil assets but did not know nearly any of the details which you have shown here.

hmmm.....now only down about as much as up today( 3% up now 3% down)......That seems much more appropriate for some reaction to Medicaid changes, one time items. I think this puts more presssure on future sales for next quarter. For now I am still long and believe it will do good in the long term.

Just wondering if anyone thinks QCOR might be bought by a larger Pharm. looking to fill their lack of pipeline? I have no information supporting this but it seems to make sense to me. QCOR gel is such a cash cow, growing and multiple indications. Share price is depressed and just seems like a smart time for big pharma to buy out QCOR.

    Disclosure: Of course long QCOR

It seems a lot of investors really have trouble understanding this biannual dividend payout (especially how to value dividend based on previous unequal payouts)....although seems like this is typical for almost every U.K. stock.
