  • Questcor: Continued Strong Earnings Will Drive It Over $90 [View article]
The one negative I really see for QCOR has been the ongoing investigation. Most investors immediately stay away when they read "investigation" from a stock. I however am long and agree with your analysis IF the company was found guilty. The bottom line is that even if QCOR is heavily fined, the earnings are so high and growing so fast the stock price is cheap. In addition the stock pays a nice dividend that is VERY well covered by earnings. I would not be surprised if large pharma might try and buy QCOR some point in the future. If QCOR is ever fined for improper marketing practices I will probably watch the stock drop for a day and then buy a whole bunch more.

  • Questcor Pharmaceuticals Update Following Its October 2013 Earnings Call [View instapost]
What I fined amusing is that I have been following QCOR for about a year and knew about this investigation for about a year....why it is suddenly news is beyond me. It is mildly concerning that another DA office has joined the investigation and the company made the comment probably to protect themselves from lawsuits in case the DA offices ever find anything...Really there is some "smoke" but can't see the "fire". Shorts may have something but on QCOR side seems like DA should have found something by now. Outcomes though still make QCOR look like a huge buy (yes the may pay a huge fine for improper marketing practices...happens in Pharma business...but so what...did you see the earnings???).

Hmmm...I am guessing this is a positive for SLT? Anyone care to comment? I just starting purchasing SLT because it looked very cheap.

  • BHP Billiton Is A Buy In A Troubled Industry [View article]
If you search SA articles on BHP and BBL you can get a complete explanation about why BHP and BBL exist but more importantly you will find that owning BBL for a U.S. investor results in significantly better return than BHP...even though they represent stock in the same company. As per Bob Johnson comments above the yield is better on BBL and that alone is a good reason to own BBL vs. BHP for U.S. investor but if I remember correctly tax is less for U.S. investor owning BBL.

  • A U.S. appeals court dismisses a lawsuit filed by U.S. organic farmers aimed at protecting them against legal action by Monsanto (MON) if traces of the company's patented biotech genes are found in crops. The court says the organic growers must rely on assurances on MON's website that it would not sue them so long as the mix is very slight. [View news story]
Monsanto apparently owns the courts.....I reasonable person would easily reason that it is wrong for a company or a person to spread what ever where ever they want. It is crazy that this is allowed.... irrevocable spreading of Monsanto's product. For example, if I were a chemical producer of Aspartame, and I just decided to spread Aspartame into the water supply for the entire U.S. I suppose I might be sued successfully because it is uncertain of the effects of long term ingestion of Aspartame. Also as long as no city had too much Aspartame in the water I would not sue....this is absolutely crazy. How can Monsanto get away with this??

  • Recent Questcor Short Squeeze Confirmed, Continuation Possible [View article]
LOL....not sure what is going on with QCOR but buying more at these levels....If the shoot up into the $40's was the short squeeze, that was pathetic and short lived.

  • This just in. Precious metals (GLD +2.2%), (SLV +2.6%) are sharply higher on the session after a panicky Sunday evening plunge brought both to multi-year lows. Other than dollar weakness (UUP -0.5%) across the board, there's no news in particular - perhaps some satiated bears decided to cover and a trend took hold. [View news story]
I like junior minors but like the etf to avoid individual company risk....GDXJ pays a nice dividend too!

  • Dividend Stocks On Sale As The Market Hits New Highs [View article]
As a warning to other investors about QCOR....there is one negative I do know of....investigation into marketing practices by district attorney, read other articles in SA about QCOR. I think it is a wonderful company, good solid dividend, nice growth, etc. I think that QCOR is so solid, even if fined for illegal marketing practices probably will add more to position. Seems like fine, if any will likely be a slap on the wrist and company keeps growing. Just want other investors to be aware.

  • Linn Energy (LINE) CEO Mark Ellis disputes the assertion in the negative Barron's article that its units may be worth far less than the current quote: "We've had three different analyses done... None of the valuations [is] anywhere close to what was represented over the weekend in the Barron's article." LINE plans to raise its dividend ~6.2% this year, not cut it. LINE +1%, LNCO +1.3% premarket. [View news story]
Usually when management increases the dividend they are very confident, particularly for stocks that are known for their stable dividend payout such as LINE. Either management is totally wrong and misguided OR Barron is not correct and taking into account LINE's recent acquistions etc. I am betting on LINE's management and consistent divident (and increasing).

  • Vodafone (VOD) is unlikely to settle a $2.6B tax dispute with the Indian government for "at least another year," the FT reports. India's finance minister had stated in January he expected a deal by April. The tax dispute is just one of several issues where Vodafone and the government are at odds. Meanwhile, Spain's telecom regulator is thinking of fining Vodafone a relatively modest $2.6M for not adhering to EU roaming tariff rules. [View news story]
This tax issue with Indian government is a concern but a relatively "small" problem when you consider VZ trying to buy back wireless stake for 100 BILLION+ from VOD.

  • Linn Energy And Berry Petroleum: 2 Companies For The Price Of 1 [View article]
I really like the timing of the repeat story by Barron's...flashed early across my screen this morning just before markets open. Stock traded ex-dividend today. Just really seems like someone wanted to make a killing today by shorting LINE. That seems like a good play....Hype some negative story again and do it right before market on ex-div. day. No surprise many people getting duped out of their LINE and LNCO shares. If someone is manipulating they deserve some jail time.

  • The Best Eagle Ford Acreage Is On Sale With This Company [View article]
    THANK YOU richjoy403

Interesting article and explains why BBL and BHP exist separately. However clearly BBL is superior for U.S. investors like myself...

"BHP Billiton Plc ADRs provide a superior return for U.S. investors, having outperformed BHP Billiton Ltd ADRs by 26% over the 20-year investment period."

  • The Best Eagle Ford Acreage Is On Sale With This Company [View article]
thanks for the heads up about tax...I am long BBL and happily adding more at these levels. Also not sure why but BHP has a 3.4% yield vs. BBL has a 4% yield according to Yahoo. So why a U.S. investor would buy BHP vs. BBL I don't know (same company but less tax for BBL). Anyone have a reason for BHP vs. BBL ???

To the author: VERY nice informative article....I was aware of BBL's purchase or U.S. oil assets but did not know nearly any of the details which you have shown here.

  • Questcor's Upcoming First Quarter Report: An Investor Reference Guide [View article] only down about as much as up today( 3% up now 3% down)......That seems much more appropriate for some reaction to Medicaid changes, one time items. I think this puts more presssure on future sales for next quarter. For now I am still long and believe it will do good in the long term.
