I am a former financial communications programmer, turned full-time investor. I began investing in the mid-1990s, looking for a way to achieve early retirement. (A goal in which I have succeeded, if you don't consider full-time investing a job.) I took a scientific, experiment-based approach rather than a studious one. I feel that this approach, combined with my extensive programming work in financial markets and directly with traders has given me uncommon contrarian insight into what really drives market dynamics.
To that end, my articles will center around stocks and their derivatives because that's where I have the most experience (over 20 years). I may occasionally comment on currencies, where I believe I have a sound academic knowledge, but less trading experience.I will always refer to a company by name or some abbreviation thereof. By contrast, I will refer to the stock a company issues by its ticker symbol. I think it can be important to differentiate between the two.
I am a full-time professional working outside of wealth management industries. I am an MBA Graduate, Psychology Undergraduate and have over 15 years of personal investment experience. I enjoy interpreting the market and find analyzing business data to be provocative and lucrative. I have a passion for writing and like to share my unique interpretation of markets. My 15 years of personal investment experience and MBA education have given me the tools to effectively research companies and markets.
My background in Psychology, research and statistics caters to my ability to critically view companies and markets and measure value. I enjoy sharing my thoughts on relevant business news events and following a variety of securities. I look for strategies in any given situation and I am intellectually stimulated from studying the market and its companies.
As a Wall St. outsider, and a representation of the part-time investor in America, I appreciate the work it takes identifying stocks with value opportunities, whether for bulls or bears. I research top down as well as bottom up when conducting my analysis. I consider a wide variety of data and continue to improve as a judge of value when reviewing long and short ideas in the context of the global economy. I hope my readers gain insight into the companies I write about as well as the macroeconomic influences on the US economy.

Ernie Zerenner, co-founder of PowerOptions, has been an active stock trader for over 40 years and an avid options trader for more than 20 years. Each Saturday he would look in the newspaper to find options with the best return Covered Calls. This process would literally take hours. First he had to find the stocks that looked promising. Second, he had to find the best options. Finally, he had to do calculations to determine the best returns.
Ernie thought, "There has to be a better way." In 1997, a colleague and Ernie had an idea - Why not use the power of the Internet to gather the data and use computers to do the calculations. We built a web site to do just that. Ernie used the site to find the best options instead of using the newspaper. Ernie was so excited that he showed it to fellow traders and let them use it also.
It was so successful that he decided to open the web site up to the public...and PowerOptions was born.
Since 1997, PowerOptions has built a winning team to support and continue development of the tools and strategies offered. PowerOptions now includes over 150 pages in its award winning web site and cover 23 of the most popular option strategies. PowerOptions has been reviewed and acclaimed by many in the industry: Forbes, AAII, Active Trader Magazine, New York Post, and Nightly Business Report to name a few.
PowerOptions is so innovative, the US Patent and Trade Office issued us patents in 1997 and 2007.
By 2000, we took over operation of OptionFind.com, a site that has similar options search engine capabilities.
Many of our subscribers told us that they loved the system, but had trouble finding the time to do their own options research. They suggested that we offer an advisory newsletter service. We released such a service under the name PowerOptionsApplied.com in 2005. This service uses our expertise and patented tools to search out, publish, and manage what we feel are great option trades. We offer Covered Calls, Diagonal Spreads and Iron Condors so far, more of your favorite strategies to come.
Also in 2005, we released our first publication in the options education arena. Covered Calls: Aggressive Strategy for the Conservative Investor is a self-study course. It includes a DVD, 130 page book, and a workbook to help beginning option traders learn the basics of the most popular option trading strategy: Covered Calls. The course also includes 2 free months of the PowerOptions online subscription service.
In 2008, we released our second and third publications to compliment our self-study covered calls kit... Naked Puts: Power Strategies for Consistent Profits is a beginner level text that illustrates the details of using cash secured puts to acquire stock at a discount and generate income. It covers the basics of the strategy from understanding the theory, entering a new trade and covers all the way through trade management.
Protective Option Strategies: Married Puts and Collars covers reliable strategies to generate consistent income and provide insurance, especially during times of financial crisis and uncertainty. Topics of discussion include tips on entering protective strategies and the theories behind them, as well as selecting the right stocks and proper protective combinations for investing in today's volatile market.
Also in 2008, we purchased the rights to the RadioActive Trading methodology. This investing methodology is just one strategy that options investors can use, but trading "RadioActively" gives investors a great chance of making money and keeping their capital while they do it. The RadioActiveTrading.com site offers plenty of educational materials to get any investor with any experience level into options trading with the ammunition he needs to be successful. After learning the methodology, investors can implement the trading style themselves with the help of the PowerOptions tools, or look over the shoulder of the RadioActive trading staff as they pick and publish trades to the FISSION advisory newsletter subscribers.
Most recently, in 2010, we published our fourth educational text. Iron Condor: Neutral Strategy for Uncommon Profit. The concepts, ideas, rules-of-thumb and real-world examples presented in the text have been gleaned from the PowerOptionsApplied newsletter's successful trading of the strategy. Readers can take the lessons learned by the PowerOptionsApplied newsletter and repeat the good and forgo the bad in order to profitably invest using the Iron Condor strategy. This text presents real-world examples, real-world profits and real-world mistakes, the concept of optimally trading Iron Condors by balancing risk, reward, volatility, stop-losses and other parameters to achieve the best results from trading the strategy.
Ernie and his staff are active investors; they use the PowerOptions tools and research every day. The company's staff is personally committed to providing you with quality service and an exceptional value.

Publisher of options newsletter TerrysTips.com since 2001.. Thirty years experience trading options virtually every day. including stint as seat holder and market maker on the C.B.O.E. MBA from Harvard Business School and DBA from Univ. of Virginia Darden School. Author of Making 36%: Duffer's Guide to Breaking Par in the Market Every Year, In Good Years and Bad (4th revision - 2012) and Coffee Can Investing: A Better Idea Than Mutual Funds in an IRA or 401(K), 2014.
TerrysTips.com is a newsletter that carries out eight different option portfolios which many subscribers mirror on their own or through auto-trade at several brokers who make all the same trades in individual customer accounts. Each portfolio offers something different (bullish, neutral, or bearish),and different underlyings (GOOG, SPY, SVXY, and other individual companies).
In 2005, the S.E.C. brought an action against Terry Allen, claiming that he was managing money for people without being a registered investment advisor because of the auto-trade service offered by several brokers who placed trades in their customer accounts based on Terry’s Tips newsletter recommendations. A second complaint was for a single statement on his website that they believed was incorrect and therefore fraudulent.
Although two large law firms assured Dr. Allen that if he went to court on the first issue, he would win because there was a Supreme Court decision stating that investment newsletters are exempt from registration requirements - it would be a violation of their First Amendment rights. However, they estimated that his legal expenses would be greater than settling with the S.E.C. (and a year or two of his time tied up in court proceedings), and both firms recommended that he accept the settlement offer while not admitting any guilt.
The second issue (fraud) involved a single statement that was true when it was written but a couple of years later, option prices fell to 10-year lows, and it was no longer true. The S.E.C. argued that the statement was not removed from the website in a timely enough fashion.
For the past eight years since the settlement with the S.E.C., Dr. Allen has have been publishing the Terry’s Tips newsletter (and recommendations are executed in customer accounts at thinkorswim by TD Ameritrade through their Auto-Trade program), and the S.E.C. has not objected to any of his activities.

Invest. Manage risk. Communicate. Educate yourself. Make profits. .
My name is Todd Johnson. I’m a family man, sports fiend, health nut, technology buff, long-time stock investor, and a very lucky mountain climber, all of which has shaped my philosophy as a professional investor for the last 30 years. As my interests might suggest, I am always looking for the upside while striving to minimize risks.
My new passion, which I have realized through DividendLab.com project, is helping other investors learn more about investing; investing in stocks and other assets that are subject to wide price swings can actually enhance their returns when the right investment strategy is applied. To that end, I read company 10k and 10q statements so they can skip them. I compile and analyze the market research that isn’t always at their fingertips. And I don’t make any investment recommendation without committing my own funds first, which is the purest form of accountability.

Dr. Ahanotu is a graduate of Stanford University with over twenty years of experience doing analytic modeling, executing pricing strategies through price optimization, and implementing, developing, and selling enterprise software. He adds to this industry experience another five overlapping years of research in knowledge management and organizational learning. Duru Ahanotu, Ph.D. founded Ahan Analytics, LLC to deliver sustainable, data-driven approaches for improving business performance. He recognizes the unique challenges companies face in leveraging their data to increase revenues, become more efficient, and drive profitability.
Before launching Ahan Analytics, LLC, Dr. Ahanotu was last a Sales Consultant in the Advertiser and Publisher Solutions (APS) group within Microsoft Advertising. In this capacity, he provided product knowledge, functional expertise, and technical support to APS account executives who sold APS’s suite of media monetization products. He led product demonstrations and increased the productivity of the sales team by training and certifying employees on the use and demonstration of the software. Dr. Ahanotu took on this role after Microsoft acquired his former employer Rapt, Inc. Rapt provided software solutions for maximizing revenue and yield for online media publishers.
With Rapt, Dr. Ahanotu last served as an Engagement Manager for a software implementation for a $100 million on-line publisher with a rapidly growing business. With his project team, Dr. Ahanotu created and coordinated novel approaches to inventory forecasting, structuring of product hierarchies, and ETL across software systems for order management, advertising delivery, and Rapt’s software. He also generated a step-by-step methodology for interpreting and using the results of price optimization.
As a Solutions Architect, Dr. Ahanotu served as the lead Solutions Consultant on client engagements and provided technical assistance and guidance to Solutions Consultants on other projects. Dr. Ahanotu designed and implemented price optimization solutions, demonstrating expertise in mathematical modeling, pricing, data analysis, SQL, and relational data models. He led discussions with customers and internal teams to improve implementation processes and product design.
Dr. Ahanotu held oversight responsibility for the analytic modeling for two projects using Price Director, Rapt’s price optimization software. Each project supported pricing decisions in Fortune 50 businesses: one business was a leading online media publisher, and the other was a rapidly growing technology company in a low margin business. Dr. Ahanotu helped the latter client integrate Price Director into pricing workflow. As part of this first-ever client implementation of Price Director, he worked closely with Product Management, Analytic Development, and Software Engineering to ensure that early-stage product functionality met client needs.
Dr. Ahanotu contributed several new methodologies for implementing Price Director analytics and conceptual frameworks for training clients on these analytics. He is a contributor on a related Rapt patent: “Method and System for Producing Optimized Prices for Products for Sale.” Dr. Ahanotu presented a white paper on the pricing of New Product Introductions at the 2006 INFORMS Annual Meeting. The Professional Pricing Society published this paper in The Journal of Professional Pricing (Vol. 16, No. 1, First Quarter 2007) as “Pricing New Products: Turning Portfolio Uncertainty Into Profits.”
Prior to Rapt, Dr. Ahanotu was a consultant with Integral, Inc, a small strategic management consulting firm. During his three-year tenure, he consulted on product development and technology strategy focused on high tech and pharmaceutical companies. Prior to Integral, he developed mathematical programming algorithms for managing and optimizing “Y2K” projects as an independent contractor. Prior to this work, he implemented expert systems for diagnosing and troubleshooting automotive and semiconductor manufacturing equipment as a Business Solutions Project Manager and Consultant for Expert Edge, Inc.
Dr. Ahanotu earned a Master’s and Ph.D. in Engineering-Economic Systems (1999), a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, and Honors in Values, Technology, Science, and Society (1991) - all at Stanford University.

Long time private investor of Stocks and Options. I have been trading Stocks for 14 years and Options for 12+ years. I am extremely creative when it comes to my trades and I almost always attempt to keep things leveraged. The one thing I've learned is an investor should always be hedged and never be "Naked" in your trades.
