Heavy on opinion and light on facts. What do the numbers really show? You gave the high points on the dow and sp but what are the numbers on the retail vs institutional buying during those times?

I have not found Larry's tone to be rude and insulting at all. He has patiently answered the many questions that have posed to him. He has very strong beliefs, to the point of stubbornness, but only rarely does he descend to personal insults. Unfortunately, many who attack Larry do.

  • Realize Gains Before This Bull Dies [View article]
People love calling tops in bull markets and bottom in bear markets. Those who are wrong keep silent, while those that get the call right proclaim from the mountaintops (though few can do so consistently). To your credit, you do reference your past articles though one might rightfully ask why they should believe you now given they would have lost big had they followed both your equity and precious metal calls. You'll be right - eventually. It just depends on your perspective.

Pt: I am sorry but you have not rebutted a single of Larry's points. In fact, from the way I see it, it is you that have continually misunderstood Larry's arguments, or have simply presented incorrect facts (e.g. "dividends have no relationship whatsoever to the so called "capital base", "Simply buying various funds that invest the herd's money in various sector funds, is not beating the market.... it IS the market" and failing to understand how Larry applies Buffett's methodology). Many here, including myself, have patiently tried to explain to you the misunderstandings that you seem to have, but you have ignored them; you appear to be as firmly entrenched in your view as Larry. You are welcome to continue investing however you wish to, and I commend you on your 30 years of success, but if you are not willing to appreciate evidence or partake in constructive discourse then further conversation becomes futile. Best wishes to you.

p.s. As a disclaimer, I should mention that I am not one of Larry's clients, nor will I ever, in all likelihood, be one. I understand Larry's arguments, but do not religiously adhere to them (e.g. I love dividends for dividend's sake, and I enjoy stock-picking). So I am not EMH indexer (since it appears you have a strong dislike of such folk).

    D. Fish...

"unsophisticated"...re... And how would you know that?

I guess one could say the same for any investing crowd...with comments like these:

"When you sell a share it is gone forever....poof. When a company pays a dividend the price drops for a day and rebounds. When the stock price goes back up, so does the price on the extra share(s). So no, they are not the same."

One would be tempted to think dividends that are free money!

Valuation by the market (stock price) is subjective...thats true. I dont see how that is relevant though. Your last paragraph basically agrees with Larry. Aside from agency risk, all dividends necessarily reduce future earnings potential...as was mentioned in the article.
