I make no comment on this specific instance but i disagree on principle ; many people work for motivation other than money. The number may be in the minority but they do exist!

Your strategy to reduce volatility in AAPL is simply to....own less AAPL. So how is that different to investing 20% in AAPL and the 80% in any other stocks of your choice? (compared to being 100% invested in QQQ)
In fact, I could do even better and reduce volatility even more by investing 20% AAPL and 80% in non-tech sector stocks...that serves your stated purpose "the goal is to reduce volatility, while still being able to ride AAPL higher." while decreasing exposure and hence volatility to the tech sector...
As an author it would benefit you also to be less hostile to your readers, even if you disagree vehemently...
