  • Danger Zone For This Week: Apple [View article]
One flaw is that you're using "target" ROIC's (70% & 50%) picked from companies that have different business models. And no actual evidence that AAPL will ever reach those levels, except pure speculation.

  • Apple Is Not Worth $460 [View article]
@2Much: "…unless Apple releases another new, high margin product no one else will offer."

Tell us when Apple EVER offered ANY product that no one else offered, i.e., that currently didn't already exist in the marketplace. Even the "Apple I" in 1976 had the Altair 8800 before it.

Apple redefines, that's all. All companies are free to do that. Apple's pretty good at it.

  • What Is Wrong With Microsoft? [View article]
The sad thing is that Microsoft, as a industry participant, has spent all these years hindering real technological advancement with their monopolistic entrenchment. Just think where we'd be now if the game had been level all-round.

Now that Google and Apple (and others) have finally gotten us some breathing room, we will start to see some real fundamental change. Fantastic innovations by many companies and individuals as we become a truly networked society. I hope Microsoft is up to the task.

I'll stick with proven (10 yrs+ dividend growth) companies for my portfolio, thanks. MSFT may get there someday (3 years to go), but I wouldn't count on too much share price appreciation.

  • I'd Pay $400 For 'This Apple' [View article]
Apple is apparently not looking for market share. Nor should they: they can't compete on price and maintain quality AND margin. And they can't build enough product to meet demand as it is!

Some may remember the old days (sans Steve Jobs) when Apple's line of Performa computers did just what you're saying, dozens of models at various price points that were nothing more than dozens of build-to-order specs. Apple was dying. It took the "second coming" of Steve to save them from themselves.

If Apple ever even hints that they will go down the road of padding the shelves with multiple models (of any of their products) then I am outta here. Until then I'm long, looking to add at the reversal. Steve's gone, but his legacy should remain for a few years yet.

  • Android Is Dead, Part 3: The Numbers [View article]
Apple TV is an amazing little box. Good streaming choices (Netflix, etc.) Share multiple users' iTunes music and videos on your HDTV. With Airplay you can toss playing content (video/audio) right to your TV/Receiver from any iOS device (iPhone, iPad) at the click of a button.

And with Mountain Lion (MacOS 10.8) you can even Airplay your Mac screen using the TV as its monitor. So anything you can stream off the web can be streamed to your TV. Best $100 bucks we ever spent. It easily allowed me to cut the cable, saving me $100 every month! I'd say that's a pretty good ROI.
