  • Accounting Lessons From Corning [View article]
    Great article, enjoyed the read.

So the "minority interest expense", deducing to account for the 80% stock ownership from 100%, is $4. The calculation is 20% x $20 (80% stock owned operating income) correct?

    Thank you.

  • Bill Ackman's flagship fund at Pershing Square fell 0.1% in February, not bad considering the hits from two of his marquee holdings. The last day of the month was particularly painful, with J.C. Penney plummeting 17% while Herbalife jumped 7.6%. For the year, the fund is up 3.6% vs. the S&P's 7.4% gain.  [View news story]
He needs to cut his losses with Herbalife, that may be much harder to do with $JCP. Unless something changes, his antics with Herbalife and the continued support of Ron Johnson will cost him valuable credibility.

  • Medical Marijuana: It's Just A Pump And Dump [View article]
Shouldn't an article with $MJNA in its title, reference $MJNA at all?

    Ashraf,

Thank you for posting. The article was a bit general for the title it was given. I would have appreciated a little more correlation between the macro factors currently present and for the near future.

The article seemed a bit formulaic, where is your specific opinion on why MJNA is forever destined to be a penny stock. A pump and dump. Etc. I think the readers were looking for something more than "I've seen this many times before."

    Thank you for the post.

  • Can Netflix Save Dreamworks Animation? [View article]
As bullish as I am on $NFLX, the partnership with Dreamworks makes a lot of sense. I think the initial beneficiary is Dreamworks but if the studio can begin to match Pixar again, it will be big for NetFlix.

  • Manitex Is Deeply Undervalued As P/E Nears 52-Week Low [View article]
    Hey William,

I appreciate the article, thank you for posting. I have recently begun researching Manitex and believe it has great upside. It is difficult to find information because the stock is pretty under the radar. But as a fan of MTW for similar reasons, this could quickly change. Thanks for providing some of your "go to" valuation metrics, even at its current price I believe it is still undervalued.

    Thanks again,
    Eric

    Hi Robert,

Being focused on Brazil, could you tell me anything about Yoki Alimentos? I am long GIS and now covering it for my stock group. Would love a more personal insight if you could provide one.

    Thank you.

  • When Research In Motion Wins, Who Loses? [View article]
Hi Kurt I enjoyed the article and the comment responses.

I am curious if you know how many different model types (roughly) the BB10 OS will be launching on. I can't help but feel part of the Apple allure is it's exclusivity to one OS device, and while Apple does all it can to take advantage of upgrades with little innovations (i.e. Apple 5) it remains roughly the same device. I fear BB10 users will be forced to suffer from the same smartphone paranoia that I have suffered as an Android user for the past two years, constantly looking around to see if some other phone model is faster, has more memory, etc.

Second, as I look into a long position on the stock, what negative side effects will RIMM feel from missing the holiday sales season? In one sense, loyal BB users have waited for this long, what is another month or two? But on the other hand, BB10 has missed the initial pre-Thanksgiving release date which was set for a reason.

Thanks again for posting the article, I enjoyed the read.

  • 5 Stocks To Watch In December [View article]
I agree $RIMM is riding a wave right now, and with a solid product in BB10 they are poised to take from $APPL, but Apple is far from dead.

The average analyst price target is high but it does serve as an indicator to the fundamental measures of the company currently and to be priced in over the next few months. For me, when RIM announced it would not have BB10 ready for the holiday season it announced it would be missing the single biggest opportunity to pick up market share from AAPL, GOOG, etc.

  • The president and Congress have heard the public's anger over the fiscal cliff impasse and will likely find a resolution, says Dennis Gartman. We're starting to see some Senators begin to cave on their "no new taxes" pledge; they understand how serious the circumstances are. The markets are already beginning to react positively to what's coming out of Washington, so any further progress could mean a strong rally for U.S. equities. (Video[View news story]
I am hopeful the statement "We're starting to see some Senators begin to cave on their no new taxes pledge, they understand how serious the circumstances are." was meant to end with "on both sides."

  • If there was any doubt Google (GOOG) wants to be a serious rival to Amazon, Microsoft, and Rackspace in the cloud infrastructure market, it removed them with today's announcements. 36 new computing instance types and new backup and long-term storage options have been introduced, and prices have been slashed for both computing and storage services. Google, which entered the market in June, is looking to undercut Amazon (the undisputed leader), which has been pretty aggressive with its own pricing. [View news story]
What kind of cloud infrastructure pricing do Microsoft and Rackspace offer in relative comparison to Amazon and Google's proposition?

  • Research In Motion: Don't Jump On The BB10 Bandwagon Yet [View article]
Up 3% on encouraging news of market bounceback.
Government contract signed, sealed, and delivered.
I look for $RIMM to rise another 3% this week.

  • Why Microsoft Could Be The Perfect Stock For Income Investors [View article]
The Surface tablet won't be an absolute gamechanger but at least it gets Microsoft in the game. Even if it has not been reflected in Microsoft's share price I think it has in Apple.

Also, and while I think the video game industry is dying, I see the potential for Surface to evolve into future devices with the ability to capture market share from the Ipad like the Xbox 360 did from the PS3, after failing with the xbox against the ps2.
