The problem, as you correctly allude to, is the LACK of regulation not "Socialism". The people running the plans were allowed to dip their hands into the pot (a la leveraged buyouts etc) and underfund those plans by just predicting unreasonably high returns on the money they were putting in. Now, the poor schmo who was paying his share of the pension for 30 years is painted as a freeloader. Meanwhile the people who bent the rules get to run to the govt for protection..

NG is considered a bridge fuel b/c it, like oil, won't last forever. They just have to last until we can make the technological jump to the next energy source(s). The problem is we hit peak oil in the 70's and may have also hit peak gas so we better be developing alternatives now b/c fossil fuels will only be scarcer and more expensive going forward.

Hydrogen is a dead end for transportaion. -expensive to produce -why convert nat gas or elec to something to replace them? just use nat gas or elec directly -can't be moved w/ pipelines -explosive -corrosive -fuel cells are expenisve and wear out qiuckly -where do you get/store the pure ,dry oxygen from? -low energy density
