Take the example of the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) at an investment bank who was reshuffled out of that position to a more ‘benign’ position within the company. Within a few months the bank collapses. Word leaks out that the CRO had warned management about its risky practices and as a result was moved out of that position. Was the CRO reshuffle a warning sign of things to come? In another case, the Board of Directors at a prominent large bank did not have any relevant industry experience. The bank could barely be propped up inspite of a huge bailout by the government.
