  • Rising Interest Rates And BDCs: Part 2 [View article]
Had to check if the drop was due to it going off dividend since I remember May 8 was the last one.......but no, it's the 14th this time.

  • Commodities In 2014: A Place In The Portfolio? [View article]
With many commodity prices at long-term lows, and inflation undoubtedly rising in the future, do people really need to ask whether there's a place for commodities in their portfolio ???

    Long RJI.

  • How Much Money Are You Planning To Lose In Your Bond Portfolio? [View article]
I guess I don't understand the value of these tables. All they're doing is multiplying the duration by a 1.35% expected rate increase. There are two big problems with this. One, each of those funds has a different duration and therefore should not be multiplied by the same 1.35%. Two, values are not driven simply by what happens to rates. They are also driven by simple demand and speculation. Check the daily share price change of any bond fund/ETF and compare it to daily movements in treasury rates. It's never a perfect correlation. Values can go up even when rates do.

  • Believe The Hype, GoPro Is For Real [View article]
GoPro's value is mainly in its brand name. In terms of innovation they are lagging behind. People who say "GoPro is the best" are being rather simple-minded, in my opinion. Best at what? There are many different aspects of a good camera, just like there are many different aspects of a good car. Some people want a fast car, others want a big car, others want a fuel efficient car. GoPro cameras might have superior image quality, but that might not be the most important consideration for some people. There are many people who feel that the shape and size of GoPro cameras are too blocky and square for some applications, such as for mounting on a motorcycle or a helmet. Also, GoPro's control interface isn't very intuitive at all. The bottom line is, GoPro has many competitors, each with their own unique features & benefits, so you owe it to yourself to shop and compare for yourself.

  • Prospect: Portfolio Debtor Files For Bankruptcy, Meet New Century Transportation [View article]
What percentage of PSEC investors, ON A SHARE-WEIGHTED BASIS, actually read Seeking Alpha? I suspect SA's influence is seriously overestimated.

  • Prospect Capital: Don't Ignore Concentration Risk [View article]
Seems to be a lot of insecure bulls in here. What are they afraid of, that one SA article is going to make a dent in their precious stock? Sorry but that's not going to happen, the real heavy-hitters don't read SA.

  • Dividend-Oriented Portfolio Using Low Correlated ETFs [View article]
I may have missed this, but what period of time was used to get the correlations? The reason I ask is, I can recall many market dips and mini-corrections over the past few years that hurt 6 of your 7 ETF's simultaneously (all of them except TLT).

A lot of butt-hurt in here. Just move on if you don't like his article. Oh and by the way, you can't bucket investors into only two groups...... "conservative long-only" versus not. Many people are both......they simply dedicate a smaller portion of their portfolio to riskier stuff that they trade more frequently.

  • Prospect wins appeal with SEC; no restatement necessary [View news story]
Nice. But too bad that nearly all the increase happens before the opening bell.

  • America The Youthful? Yes, On A Relative Basis [View article]
"Over the long term, a country’s growth rate is a function of just two things: growth in the labor force and productivity."

Just two things? What about exploiting overseas markets, either by selling goods or services to them, or by exploiting their natural resources?

  • Nokia Seeks The Path Towards $10, Can Smart Cars Help? [View article]
It's quite clear that, post-Microsoft sale, NOK has suddenly become a VERY long-term play, suitable only for investors who are content to wait it out for years while these emerging technologies settle themselves.

And I gotta ask, where are all the dart-throwers on this board who, 1-1.5 years ago, said that it would hit $15 or even $20 just because of Lumia sales success? LOL.
