I thought the rigs and assets had malta flags? The tax rate is lower than 10% though, not sure exactly how much.

  • Stocks carve out new session lows 90 minutes before the bell, the Dow (DIA -1.9%) now off 300 points, but outperforming the S&P 500 (SPY -2.1%) and the Nasdaq 100 (QQQ -2.2%). Long-term Treasury yields have come off their peaks, but remain sharply higher, the 10-year at 2.43%. The 5-year (IEI, FIVZ, TBZ, VGIT) at 1.32% must be starting to look good to anyone who believes the Fed isn't hiking rates for another 2 years. The Dec 2015 Fed Funds futures contract is pricing in 100 bps of hikes between now and then. [View news story]
Perhaps it's some leverage unwinding, that makes the most sense to me. I think the outflows are going to cash, I'm not sure where else they would be going. This turbulence will cut off soon enough as wall street unwinds a bit of leverage IMO.

  • Men's Wearhouse (MW) fires George Zimmer from his position as executive chairman and says it will postpone its annual meeting as it seeks new director candidates. For those curious, Zimmer is the guy from the Men's Wearhouse commercials with the personal guarantee. MW -6.6% premarket. [View news story]
They should contract him for commercials, he's a really recognizable guy.

  • Microsoft's Xbox One Decisions Should Delight Investors [View article]
As a gamer I am not at all happy with the Microsoft, now I'll admit that the xbox one has become more and more ecosystem based like apple the key difference is that Apple initially built the ecosystem around a product that initially had no huge competitors and went at a much slower pace of doing so, while not restricting the product far too much.

MSFT has made a drastic error in my opinion, the pricing isn't competitive, the whole game issue isn't helping either, the problem is that the focus on TV has started to die away, other than size, motion control and group entertainment the TV is losing importance to personal devices and computers. I think MSFT has made a major mistake in the gaming field, I have always used the xbox for gaming, but I doubt I'll be buying the xbox one.

All that being said, I agree with farstud's comment above, that this will likely not have a huge effect on MSFT as a whole.

  • MBIA's (MBI -2.1%) earnings report is a good excuse to take just a few profits after a 50%+ run the past few sessions following the BofA settlement. Analysis of the company has shifted from survival assessment to future prospects, writes BTIG's Mark Palmer. Key, he says, will be management plans for extracting value from MBIA Insurance. Even attaching zero value to the unit, he rates MBIA a Buy with $22 price target. [View news story]
This is a buying opp folks, add on such dips.

  • NYSE margin debt hit $379.5B in March, a 28% Y/Y increase as investors borrow money to buy into what has become a famously resilient rally. Borrowing to buy shares is of course one sign of unbridled optimism, although some believe levering up makes sense in the current environment. The last time margin debt hit $380B: July 2007, the same month S&P and Moody's marked the beginning of the crisis by downgrading hundreds of RMBS. [View news story]
ugh, I hate this market, makes it hard to hold value investments when the rest of the market is like on cocaine or something. You know it makes sense to sell, but the stock's value is still there. I guess its covered call time..... :'(

  • California AG Kamala Harris files suit against JPMorgan (JPM) for alleged "fraudulent and unlawful debt-collection practices" against ~100K credit card holders in the state. Chase's use of illegal robo-signing was "widespread," and "sewer service" litigation was used against borrowers, the suit alleges. (PR[View news story]
Hey at least its not BAC getting sued, badum crash! Wait BAC's getting sued for the umpteenth time oh well.... all of these lawsuits are going to end at some point or another, whether its JPM or the more beleaguered BAC valuations should return to normal at some point in the future.

  • MBIA Inc. Reports First Quarter 2013 Financial Results [View article]
Well thats ABV not GAAP BV so basically the company is saying this is what our book value is given what the believe likely to happen versus what GAAP defines it to be. GAAP BV is $16.22. Tomorrow's conference call is really what matters more, a whole lot more needs to be done for MBI to get back to normal business. Getting back to a good credit rating should be MBIA primary goal, maybe getting rid of structured sub (aka $hitCo) would help? They need to end some of this inter-company liability BS and not let that be a concern.

Plus, MBIA's 10k is basically illegible, BAC's 10k is bad enough. Reading MBIA's 10k is like slogging through thick mud in a swamp at night while blindfolded, with a hangover and slowly drowning to death.

I think the conference call will really set the direction of the stock tommorow.

Industrial metals moved higher after China's better-than-expected trade surplus, which saw strong improvement in imports and exports. Sounds legit, guess its time to try to secure a 10^8% leverage on call options! lol

  • "There are less ways to cheat on a balance sheet than an income statement," says Bruce Berkowitz, explaining why he focuses on the one rather than the other (and why he'll probably never be a buyer of auto stocks). In this great 35-minute chat from late last year, he again makes his case for AIG and BAC - "it's the 90s all over again" - and SHLD - selling for the liquidation value of its merchandise; the brands and the real estate are free. [View news story]
He's a fund manager, talking his book helps get his investors returns. I'll admit it, his price targets on some of his stocks, ($SHLD anyone?) are a bit over optimistic to say the least.
