  • Update: Awilco Earnings [View article]
Both rigs go in for maintenance and installation of blowout preventers in either 4Q15 or 1Q16, not just one. I expect the divvy to go down only to $1.00 for both of those quarters.

We will know well in advance of the end of its lease whether Hess exercises its 275 day option. There's good reason to believe both rigs to be leased through 2017 at least. These "old rigs" will be available for lease into the 2020s. Proven management knows what they're doing.

"Interesting dividend"? How about "outstanding", "amazing", or even "unique"?

  • Double-Digit Yields From Awilco Drilling Ltd. [View article]
Tadpoles, if I have it right isn't the referendum set for a vote on Sepember 18? The question is simply "Should Scotland be an independent country?"
I saw somewhere the UK government will not oppose independence if a majority votes yes. Thats a majority of Scottish residents, including Brits, EU citizens and Commonwealth citizens residing in Scotland.

If the majority votes yes I think it means taxes go up. The Greens and Socialists in Scotland are pro Yes. Bear in mind also AWLCF would then be a UK company in a foreign land, but I suppose the hq could move to York, London, or elsewhere in the UK.

All that said, the vote is just one factor. I'm long, and intend to stick around a while.

There is yet another factor to watch, in my opinion, and thats politics.
I have a google alert set for "uk oil and gas policy". Very helpful for keeping an eye on UK bureaucrats, who are currently very bullish on North Sea drilling, I'm happy to say. Also, I keep an eye on the Scottish independence movement, these rigs are based in Aberdeen.

  • Double-Digit Yields From Awilco Drilling Ltd. [View article]
The maintenance period starting at the end of next year will put each rig in the dockyard for only two months each. They will install new blowout preventers.
Thats 1/6 of a year each...only. My guesstimate is the divvy goes down only to a buck from the current $1.15 for 4Q15 and 1Q16.

The company has business interruption insurance in case rig is out of use.

Talk to Christine at IR she is great.

AWLCFis the gift which keeps on giving.

  • Newcastle presentation on Senior Investment spinoff [View news story]
Aha! Thanks Ex. So lets say SNR shares are issued on, say, a 1 to 4 ratio. SNR would then open at around 10 or 11. If NCT then reverse splits by the same ratio its price would also be in the vicinity of 10. I'm for that.

  • Newcastle presentation on Senior Investment spinoff [View news story]
How about a reverse split of 3 or 4 to 1 after the spinoff to get the share price above $5 for both companies. Lots of funds and investors can't/won't buy a stock with a price below $5.

Thanks for another solid article, Scott. As expected, it looks like a lot of deals which didn't close in 4Q2013 carried over and closed in this quarter.
Also long below the NAV and got my $.08333 yesterday. After the upcoming report I hope we'll see it closing consistently above 9.50.

"...maybe just a sheet of glass."

Search "quantum dot", "quantum dot technology" and/or "Apple quantum dot". How about a wall sized lightweight sheet of plastic instead of your current LCD/LED.
