  • Greece Will Have the Last Laugh [View article]
This comment isn't 100% accurate, how about if this group of people have already moved all their money off-shore or into other EU countries (as only the Rich can do)? Then exiting the EU may be extremely profitable for them, as Greece would be devalued but their assets would remain unscathed. Just a thought. Remember, the wealthy have already taken something like $2 billion offshore since this crisis started.

  • Did Jim Cramer Miss the Next NAT? [View article]
I agree that Cramer was negative on something for no justification except that it is a "competitor" to the NAT model for investment dollars, not in what it does. In that sense, Cramer wasn't wrong, while BALT has entered into agreements to purchase these vessels, it is like Real Estate in that it takes a few months to close the sale so technically, they don't run the vessels yet (nor are they earning) but this will change quickly. Cramer was just regurgitating what NAT's CEO has been saying about these deals because he thinks he owns the "No Debt, all spot, high dividend" model!

  • Calculating the Value of a Container Shipping Company [View article]
You need to contact ship brokers, and some good research analysts publish NAV numbers in their reports. It is a bit intensive because you have to value time charters, and every vessel individually. Some analysts value the vessels on a "clean basis" without taking into consideration time charters, others include them. It is really an art not science. Two Analysts in the industry, Rob Mackenzie at FBR, and Ole Sloler at Morgan Stanley look at forward value estimates to calculate NAVs for their companies and that is probably the best way to do it.
