MSFT is a very real possibility, IMHO. If they want to compete against the GOOG, AAPL, and Samsungs of the world, there's great synergy in a combined MSFT/YHOO. MSFT tried to acquire them 7 years ago, but now they really need YHOO.

One of the media conglomerates should buy YHOO and liquidate the Alibaba stake, and keep the rest as an intellectual property and licensing company.

When do you suppose Murdoch will pull the plug on Fox Business "News"? They have the biggest line-up of zeroes as anchors.

Meg Whitman blew $150M of her own money, in her bid to become Governor of California. The only thing she's learned at Harvard Business School is to lay-off people. Maybe that would have been good for California, but Jerry Brown is doing great. On the other hand, Kansas is going down the tubes with their tax cuts and shutting down essential services.

    SOURCE: Wall Street Journal:

Investors will have to wait a little longer for a chance to buy into the year's most-anticipated initial public offering.

Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. on Thursday decided to push back its IPO—which could raise more than $20 billion—until after the Sept. 1 Labor Day holiday.

Leaders of the Chinese e-commerce giant, including founder and executive chairman Jack Ma, and their bankers worried there wasn't enough time to complete all the needed steps for the deal before their preferred launch date at the end of this month, according to people with knowledge of the decision.

As long as these guys stay in, YHOO should bottom at current levels. BTW, great article.

Share buybacks were very fashionable about thirty years ago, although the buybacks didn't work.
Here's a link to an article from Fox "Business". The only time they have published something informative and not an attack on Obama.

I think you seem opposed to a special dividend? Any particular reason why? I'd rather pay the tax, than have YHOO pay it.

Lot of motherhood and Apple pie, however, thanks for the estimates summary. If they meet the upper end of estimates, Google, Apple, or Microsoft could become interested in acquiring perhaps.

The single biggest pop could come if there are favorable changes in tax laws related to cash repatriation from overseas stashes. Where have all the smart tax attorneys gone?
