  • Why Apple May Miss Upcoming Earning Estimates [View article]
Whatever news I have seen ( read , including Gartner) Apple is good through 2016. Nokia is like Rim and MSFT is the 1000 pound gorilla can not move that fast and the world is changing every day, so don't worry Mr Gutone, Apple will reach 1001 by 2015!

In the Line Up have you overlooked: ebook and itv intentionally or really forgot. For somebody like you I'd think there are rationals behind. Also, how about cloud computing, which is the whole business of CRM.

  • Another day, another PT hike from a long-time Apple (AAPL +0.6%) supporter. This time the source is Sterne Agee, which is nudging its target up to $750 just 3 weeks after its last hike. The firm says its checks indicate demand for the new iPad remains very healthy, in spite of fears to the contrary, and that the discounted iPad 2 is also selling well. Apple reports FQ2 earnings on April 24.  [View news story]
So far I have seen price targets of $750, 800, 900 and 1001. Somehow I like the $750 target. I have tried to use the buy and hold thesis and it has been difficult at certain times, sold some and selected some other names which proved to be source of my loss and also option holding which was sometimes profitable and sometime source of loss. It has been difficult to ride the tide from the level of 2000 or before.

davel: I found myself compelled by some force to comment on your comment- a major part of your comment is concentrated on "Rate of Growth", but don't really complete the sentence- you have to say growth in what- Top Line, Bottom Line, Margin or what? And then in pricing Apple stock the growth in eps does not enter the computation , without rate of growth in eps, the P/E is say, 14 and if you use the growth rate the peg is way less than ONE. So, I don't know what will happen if Apple does show its present rate of growth in coming years, but I am sure the Apple gallery is thinking about it!!

This is amusing- you are saying "I haven't heard.." and then you say "I will keep my eyes open " people usually hear with their "ears" so you have to keep your ears clean!

So you are saying that shareholders of a company have not invested in the company and therefore should not share in the fortune of the company and what the company earns after paying the taxes are not available to them? You are saying that if I buy AAPL stock today I am not investing in Apple but I am investing in Apple stock. What is a share , is not it part of the company? Whole Apple is divided into close to a billion parts and each part is a share and so I own one billionth of Apple? From what you write it appears that you are most probably an English major, part of the communication industry, knows everything from conversation, etc. But, please buy some share and get the feeling that even you can be an investor in a company even if you miss to take part in an IPO! Bondholder's money is guaranteed to generate interest but a stockholder is not guaranteed anything just like if you start a company you do not know if you will make money. Read up some Finance materials. I don't want to make a big write up but you see when you buy Apple share ( any company ) you affect the market cap ( which is approximately no. of shares X the price you paid for your one share) which shows your investment is up or down, if somebody wants to buy your company the market cap offers guidance about the purchase price, and so on.

Two full weeks to go and the Braeburn group has come up with what they think and now this author. I am sure there will be at least one number daily till 24th is here. We have to keep our cool and endure the waiting as nobody can collect all the P & L numbers the way it has happened. All I hope is that 4th quarter of fiscal 2011 does not repeat itself!

  • The Loneliest Analyst: Why Zabitsky Still Rates Apple A 'Sell' [View article]
Dear Mr. Z could be worried about all his issues and I think Apple is also concerned as I don't believe that Mr. Z is smarter than the pool of intellects that Apple is. So, Apple will transform itself as necessary to adapt to the environment. Otherwise Apple will have to face all those that it passed on its way up as it slides down but I don't know when that will happen. In the end we are all dead. Lets enjoy in the meantime!

So, you don't agree with @musiccomposer's premise that a company's value is based on its earnings. You know the earning means earnings available for stockholders, who are these stockholders, the creatures who have invested their money in the company, so the earnings is the return on this invested capital. Now lets settle down and think for a second or two- won't you like to invest in an enterprise that is earning lot of money for you. You see demand for such companies will shoot high and the price of the hare will shoot high.
You have a perfectly legitimate gripe that AMZN's stock price is high and earning is terrible and I am sure you have not invested in AMZN. You see you provide your own answer. Why other people are buying AMZN's share is their business, at least you have not bought AMZN and you are absolutely correct in not doing so.

the author's concern should be What lies for Apple beyond $1000. per share mark and is Apple ready for that. This was my issue in one of comments on Apple and China- Apple needs to ready itself organization level to manage its worldwide sprawling business. Maybe it should incorporate in every market a wholly owned subsidiary and spin these subs off later and thus maximizing stockholders' wealth. We should not worry ourselves about Law of Large numbers but concentrate on a twenty first century life style, go where no man has gone before. Don't try to pull Apple down but go up with it.
