  • Texas: Recession In 2015? [View article]
We attended a wedding in Houston a couple years ago and were stunned at how meager the public transit options were. We went a musical across town, Annie, it was awesome, getting there by bus was crazy. After the show we agreed to just call a cab. Waited 45 minutes. In Texas it is assumed you have a car, next time we'll rent one.

  • Why Cheap Oil May Be Here To Stay [View article]
We've been told for decades that the price of a barrel of oil is artificially high, manipulated by dark forces. Now we're to believe those people no longer exist? I don't buy a word of it. Oil is going higher, much higher, for the same reasons it has been so high, for so long.

  • Why Cheap Oil May Be Here To Stay [View article]
There are no winners in the oil world if the price keeps falling. Therefore it is not gonna happen. Find me a winner and you might have an argument.

  • Update: Slashing The Dividend Is A Wise Move By Penn West [View article]
TD Securities downgraded Penn West Energy from Hold to Reduce with a price target of C$0.70. Now that would have been some important analysis 3 months ago.
By the way, the people at Charles Schwab repeated Penn West as a strong out perform just one week ago. I'm going to hold onto my shares indefinitely and hope for an oil rebound come Springtime.

  • $60: Not A Reasonable Price For Oil [View article]
If the price of oil stays this low almost nothing will be spent on maintenance in the struggling oil producing countries. A coming train wreck you can count on.

  • The Odds Of An Emergency OPEC Meeting Are Going Up [View article]
I think you've nailed it Genjake, it may be as as simple as Saudi Arabia refusing to continue to play dad for the rest of juvenile acting OPEC. If I were a Saudi I think I would be saying it's about time.

  • Crucial Facts About Energy Stocks [View article]
I find myself wondering if the Saudi motives don't have more to do with simply punishing Iran, and other corrupt OPEC teammates, than in bankrupting shale oil producers. You can't destroy shale oil, sure you can bankrupt todays companies, but new people come in, buy up the assets at fire sale prices and keep producing, at vastly lower costs. The Saudis have to know this, (unless some really dumb people are in charge over there).

  • Why I Expect WTI To Go Back To $100 [View article]
We've been told, by many, for years that the price of oil has no basis in reality, what we call supply and demand, rather it is controlled by Wall Street speculators. If that is true why did they let the price crash? What is different now? Don't tell me it's new US oil, that is called supply and we have already dismissed that.
My personal take away: The cheap oil is gone, someday, not soon, the price will recover, solid, low debt, oil companies are a good buy.

  • Falling oil prices test OPEC unity [View news story]
I think you're right saratogahawk. I can understand that Saudi Arabia will be outraged if OPEC passes a deal to cut production and the other nations cheat, but refusing to unilaterally cut their own production is even worse. I mean come on, they've got the cash reserves to get through this and the oil stays in the ground for the next generation to sell at a higher price. It's a no brainer for the Saudis.

  • Shale Oil Stocks: Do Not Count On A Major Slowdown In The U.S. Oil Production Growth [View article]
They're stuck between a rock and a hard place. Cutting production is the only way to raise prices, but that would slash current income. Not gonna be pretty.

Excellent point. These are companies that showed a profit when oil was bringing only half what it does today. In time costs will adjust to the new price.

Doesn't mean they don't think they can Million$Man. I suspect the Saudi princes will need to be shown reality before they doubt their power. We'll see, it's going to be an interesting OPEC meeting on Thanksgiving Day. My neighbor's son in law will be there, wish I could witness that circus.
