  • Yamana Gold Reports Its Fourth-Quarter And Full-Year 2014 Results [View article]
Thanks FT. I have followed AUY on and off for almost 10 years, having owned it for a bit when it was right at this level actually. I started following it again (closely) over the last few months and took a spec position at $4.40 a few weeks ago. I bot a bit more at $3.88 as it dropped. Finally I doubled down right before the ER at $3.96. This miner has solid reserves that should translate into higher profits and and higher pps. Mgmt has dropped the ball-tho the drop in $gold certainly isn't their fault-and needs to get their feces together before investors lose any more confidence. With solid reserves and a stable gold price, what they need most at this point is the psychological advantage of trust, as in trust that the future will be different than the recent past. That trust alone is worth $.50-1.00 imo.

This is no LT hold imo, but if they can show that they are capable of translating reserves into profits, one step at a time, and build trust, there's no reason this can't move up 3 or 4 bucks over the next 12-24, the price of gold cooperating of course. I also think they should dump the dividend and focus all their energies and monies on turning the ship around.

  • Beaten Down BDCs: Fifth Street Finance [View article]
< FSC's management is committed not to issue shares at less than NAV and, in this connection, is one of few BDCs not to ask for shareholder authorization to take this action. >

'Old mgmt' SHOULD be committed for their behavior. And we as investors should be committed if view any BDC investment as anything but 'highly speculative' and allow it to occupy any more than a very small portion of our portfolios.

  • Fifth Street Finance Corp.: A Strong Buy After The Company Cut Its Dividend [View article]
<Fifth Street Finance justified its dividend cut by alleging that it intends to move "to a more conservative dividend policy and setting distributions at a level that is covered by sustainable net investment income">

This sounds like they are learning as they go, which is fine EXCEPT there's this little matter of them being counted on by thousands of investors to invest their $ wisely and pay out a steady stream of income which has been anything but steady, to say nothing of the pps itself.

I bot small positions for both my aunt and uncle around the time of last year's dividend increase. But the deterioration since then has been scary, as has mgmt's behavior. I've held, but I'm looking to exit those positions soon.

Great 'War Games' reference-thank you (always loved that movie). Sad that it kind of applies here too.

Considering it's sinking into the mud, I'd say investors are less than impressed. I've been trying to swing trade it, but held onto long.

  • Key Takeaways From Yamana Gold's 4Q Report [View article]
Mgmt execution is the problem imo. The have decent reserves, but they can't seem to translate that into profits. That's mgmt's fault.

Agreed. I would have thought they would have had a Plan B if oil tumbled. Guess not. All things considered tho, I don't think it's the end of the world for them. Yield is around 5.8% at pps of $24 I believe now.

Candlesticks actually do make sense to me. I'm certainly not an expert, but I've found them very helpful as they give me a feel for price direction (part art, part science I guess).

Hi MC. I know a guy who uses it regularly (he's a Phd in math fwiw) and does very well. I've looked at it, and noticed some things that are helpful, but it never clicked for me either. It always struck me as one of those things that makes sense, as long as you look backwards.
