Thanks Buzz. As always, I appreciate your input here. I'm licking my wounds right now. It's obvious a lot of investors feel BDCs are bad place for their $. I see/hear a lot of fear in a lot of posts re BDCs. Unless we have an actual horrific downturn (instead of just talking about it, like we/they are now), I would think that the well run BDCs should still do well, particularly in this low interest rate TINA market. I know NMFC isn't MAIN, but it's being treated like it's got toxic assets. That's not the case tho. Frustrating.

Plus, it's less than 10% of my overall portfolio. It's done far better over the last year than my BDC or even my 401k too.

She's not, but I cleared it with her before I purchased the initial shares (@ $51 btw).

It is a gamble-as is life. My mother died at 69 on Dec 24, 2014. She was a health, diet, and supplement nut who ran and did yoga from her late 20s onward. About 13 years ago, she contracted (no idea how) a rare form of MS, and it slowly destroyed her body. No one was able to do anything for her.

Life is most def a gamble. I'm willing to take this one with MO.

I liked 'WS' but Charlie Sheen is an idiot. "I was born dead"??? What a dope and a pathetic narcissist. He's had it so easy for so long and he blew it. A selfish, arrogant attitude won't help him get into heaven. He deserves what he gets.

I bot STWD for my aunt and uncle in the low $20s. I'm looking to add for them around $19. Dividend may not grow much (or at all) for a while, but it's not going to fold the tent and go home b/c times are tough. Anyone who has done some reading on STWD knows that their mgmt is held in very high regard.

    I'm hanging in there.

MO is the only one I trust of these 5, and my wife's Roth is 100% MO to stand behind that statement.

Good questions, bulls. I'm getting killed with NMFC, and I wish I had waited to reinvest with the last dividend from 2 weeks ago. I feel like there's no use selling now, but I'm bummed over the possibility that there's still more downside. I added several times toward the end of last year, thinking it was a good idea, yet now it looks premature. I'm out of dry powder for a while, so I only have the next dividend (end of March) to help lower my cost basis. I think the selling is overdone, but things are really murky right now, so it's hard to see clearly.

Thankfully, this is my 'risk' account, as my (my wife's, actually) other Roth is 100% MO, and tho it was down 2% today, it's held up well. Plus, MO just paid their div on 1/11, so I'm looking to reinvest around $56 or lower. My 401k is over 50% cash, so I'm waiting for 1825 or so $SPX before starting to deploy some of it.

  • American Funds' The Growth Fund Of America: Why Not Just Buy An ETF?  [View article]
Thank you for those figures. You make good points.

I'm hoping to see a drop in AMZN and AMGN that brings down the price of this fund some, so I can p/u add'l shares. The dividends from the fund are automatically reinvested, so that will help a bit if the sell off continues.

Even if some of the above holders sell some shares, I have to think they will be wanting to buy back at lower prices. The tickers I listed above have good to great positions vis a vis their competitors, so they will continue to lead despite possible depressed share prices and valuations going fwd.
