  • You Might Want To Buy AT&T Near The Bottom [View article]
You make some good points but I disagree with your first one. I think there will be some fallout if T doesn't make this VOD deal happen. They may (or may not) redeem themselves with something else, but I feel very strongly that they are going to swing for a home run with the next 'thing'. I honestly don't believe they will just try to forge ahead with the internet of everything and some of these future ventures and hope investors are satisfied with that. IMO, they won't be. With T-Mobile running an aggressive campaign against T and VZ, both will need to show they can respond with more than a yawn.

They will have to do something to spur future growth. My guess is through acquisition.

  • Why I Said Goodbye To Lorillard, Inc. [View article]
I was thinking about that too. If the RAI story is true, and LO holds out, we could be leaving $ on the table selling in the mid $50s. Impossible to say what might occur at this point, but I'd say that LO will be over $60 a share should this deal happen. I haven't run the #s on a $20-22 billion deal, but we should continue to see some serious volatility in their pps.

We should see $55-56 (more if there's a NR with details) tomorrow too, unless RAI says something to squash a deal.

If the T/VOD deal becomes a reality, you can fuh-getta-bout a $30 pps.

Let's hope PSEC is still able to do this in 6 years. A lot can change in 72 months.

  • Is It Time To Purchase High-Yielding General Electric? [View article]
riggle99 has it right imo. This behemoth is way to big to be managed effectively by just a few people (certainly not one). GE has become like the gov't: Too many divisions, boards, assets, etc to be effectively run as one co. Splitting it off into several (at least) entities would bring about value that they will never see should it continue on as it is, even with GEC about to be spun off.

  • Is Now The Time To Buy Kinder Morgan As Insiders Invest? [View article]
    ddeckert:

WHEN you buy the stock is very important too. With the volatility the pps is experiencing, sarichter's comment is right on the money. You've got to have a longer holding time than 3 years (min 8-10, if not longer imo). I always love to see a stock I just bot's pps take off right after I buy it, but what I constantly remind myself about is that I bot it b/c I see profit in holding it over the long term, not paper green or red in my account b/c I'm up or down from my purchase price after a couple of years.

  • Coca-Cola's 2014 Dividend Increase [View article]
I hear you loud and clear Aaron. I go for higher yield in my own accounts, but I have 2 clients who are within 10-15 years of retirement, and when I had a chance to start positions in KO and PEP for them near or above the 3% yield mark, I jumped all over it.

I also p/u JNJ for them in the $87-88 range. Both KO and JNJ have been on my watchlist for quite a while, and I was determined not to miss the train this time when it stopped in the station.

<Reits are not irrelevant.... they're simply on sale big time>

He never said REITs are irrelevant. He said comparing them to KO is irrelevant-big difference.

  • S&P 500 - Close Above 1,850 Achieved, Now What? [View article]
Friday's action was weak, selling off in the second half of the day. I'm looking to see if the 1850 mark can act as support rather than resistance.

There needs to be more bullish catalysts before we see real conviction buying at these levels, even if that means just going sideways above 1850 for a while.
