  • How to Build a 6 Figure Income Dividend Portfolio With $600 per Month [View article]
Force yourself to spend less than you bring home, and learn about different retirement avenues via investing.

I have a co-worker who's 60 y.o. She told me today that she has been stuffing a giant jar with $ over the last few years (it might be longer than that-not sure) with the pride a child has for tying his/her own shoe laces. When I tried to explain that inflation would out pace her savings endeavor, her face went blank and she walked away, convinced it was still a great idea. Until she's willing to move out of the financially illiterate, she'll always be poor.

  • How to Build a 6 Figure Income Dividend Portfolio With $600 per Month [View article]
<Using MO all by itself would have compounded your $600 monthly investments at 18.7% annually resulting in a $25+ million portfolio generating nearly $1.5 Million annually in dividends. It would have taken a lot of nerve to go that route though with all the tobacco lawsuits going on.>

That's incredible. With all the BS that tobacco has had to contend with (all right... some of it IS warranted), the above #s are staggering. Wow!! Makes me wonder if PM can come anywhere close to that in the next 20-30 years...

I hope so. I got some at $39, only to see it crater further. Doh!!!

I'm holding my breath that the typical summer swoon in PM stocks isn't too unkind to SLW...

  • Yamana Gold: Buy on Increased Dividend and Organic Exploration Success [View article]
<Moronne is a shareholder value mooching leech. Yamana could have been a $30 stock already.>

I'd change 'could' to SHOULD. So much time and $ wasted. This stock has consistently overpromised and underperformed. I owned it on and off in '06 and '07, but it's the same old song and dance with these dudes.

Marrone definitely has to go imo.

  • AT&T: A Dividend Stock Pick for the Next 5 Years [View article]
No way is T worth +$50 a share imo (+$50 in 10 years?? Maybe with inflation pushing stocks WAAAY up, but...). I'll admit, I still don't understand folding the p/b over the current pps formula, but I say it's fairly valued now as well, and if there's any problem with finishing the T-Mobile deal, the pps will definitely crater 10% in a day, with something like 150-200 million shares traded. I think they'd be better suited to grow the dividend as I don't see them as I high growth co going forward, near tele monopoly or not.

  • Blaming BP, Transocean Won't Chip In for Gulf Clean Up [View article]
Business Week's article on this sums it up pretty accurately imo. They say it boils down to RIG feeling that if they admit ANY guilt, they'll end up on the hook for more than they can afford, and possibly bankrupt the co (not to mention tank their pps).

I remember seeing someone post somewhere that if RIG (or a jury/judge) were to be found guilty-esp of gross negligence of some kind-that BP could end up BUYING Transocean and use them for all their future exploration. Wouldn't that be a hoot!!

  • 10 Premier Stocks Yielding Over 3%, Worthy of a Place in Your Portfolio or Watchlist [View article]
    Ai:

You sound like you're letting emotion/guesswork cloud the facts. Chowder spells it out very plainly. Divs have been getting raised for decades. These co's have a lot riding on keeping the divs going. If we see Dow 5k, yeah maybe some of these co's will need to rethink their DGR and possibly even the divs themselves. We're a ways from there right now though.
