I'm a 50-ish, mid- to upper-level manager in healthcare publishing. I live in a small town in the midwest. My goal is to invest in individual stocks and do better than my retirement savings (mutual funds) have done in the past 30 years (average 8%). I am a value investor who has developed my own stock screens and also love to start with companies with officer inside purchasing. I saw a golden opportunity to dive in to the individual-stock market in late 2008, at the peak of the doomsday talk and press, and have been plowing extra money into stocks since the early months of 2009. So far, so good.
