"Apple has always believed in the simple, not the complex." Sen. John McCain isn't satisfied with Apple's defenses, claiming the company "has violated the spirit of the law if not the letter of the law." Sen. Rand Paul has strongly defended Apple. • Two of Apple's (AAPL -0.7%) biggest sell-side fans - Gene Munster and Brian White - like the arrival dates provided in this morning's Chinese announcement. The iPhone 5 will be available a week before Munster expected, and White wasn't counting on the iPad Mini arriving this quarter. However, White thinks the iPhone 5 rollout is going "a bit slower than expected," given Apple's comment about it being available in 47 countries. The iPhone 5 is arriving at the end of a year where Android made huge share gains in China. [View news story]

  • Though analysts have come to its defense this morning, Apple (AAPL -1.9%) can't catch a break - shares now trade at 8.2x FY13E EPS (exc. cash). The decline comes as signs emerge Apple is taking new steps to vertically integrate: Digitimes reports Apple is now directly placing orders with material suppliers, who traditionally interact with manufacturers, and Horace Dediu theorizes Apple may have invested ~$2B in Sharp's display production. He also notes Apple's off-balance-sheet manufacturing/component purchase commitments have risen to $21.1B[View news story]

it was a super quarter, considering that everyone and his mother is waiting for the iphone 5 and the ipad mini...
if not for the idiot analysts guessing game, apple would have been up 6% instead of down.... after hours trading is notoriously volatile..
time to buy folks... tomorrow apple will probably go right back to where it was before the numbers came out .... perhaps higher when retail investors realize that this is a irrational knee jerk reaction...

  • Apple (AAPL -0.3%) is planning to drop the Google Maps program running on iOS in favor of a new Maps app with its own back-end. The application design is said to be fairly similar to the current Google Maps program on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, but it is described as a much cleaner, faster, and more reliable experience.  [View news story]

Renouncing your US citizenship will of course not save you from the millions you owe in back taxes when you do it...
but future income from that point on, from sources outside the US will not be taxed in the US.

The US is the only country in the world that tax on the basis of citizenship. Even if a person has never been to the US, and have no intention of ever setting foot there, that person, if born to an American parent who lives permanently overseas, will be obliged to file a US incometax every year for life..Little wonder that most opt for obtaining citizenship were they were born and live, and give up US citizenship....I was born Danish, but became a US naturalized citizen in 1968, the proudest day in my life...gosh, southern cal. was paradise in those days, cars the size of battleships, with bench seats perfect for you know what and 18cent gas...
Whatever happened to this once great country...nothing much to be proud of these days, with the US imposing their zillion rules and regulations on the whole world... Nowadays a US citizen cannot open a bank account anywhere in the world, even if you tell them its ok to tell the IRS that the account is there, they want nothing to do with it because of the onerous reporting requirements... I read the news daily from the old country, and just this morning there is a story about a small smoke shopkeeper that sent $26.000from Denmark to a merchant in Germany as payment for cuban cigars.. the wire transfer was intercepted by mr. Holder as suspicious. The poor man, when asking to get his funds back, was told they were forfeited because he had violated the US trade embargo...give me a break...
BTW, the post that states that you are still liable for your US taxes after renouncing your citizenship, applies only to the taxes you owe at the time, not to future income...
Sorry to be so long winded, had to get it off my chest...

  • France, Germany To Withhold Aid; Greece To Be Ejected? [View article]
This article portraits the worst possible scenario....
Greece should never have been allowed in the union in the first place, they falsified their state finances to gain entry, and when this was discovered years late they should have been expelled... Now that things have come to a head, the best outcome is the orderly exit of Greece from the union..when the holes in the bucket appears faster than they can be patched, its time to cut ones losses..
The whole Euro monetary system is an unnatural and unmanageable abomination..It is simply not possible to have a common currency without a common fiscal policy. The Euro is doomed and will disappear within 5 years...
Only 17 of the member states have adopted the currency, and the rest is not exactly falling over their own feet to get in..In my humble opinion even the union itself will collapse .When they allowed the former soviet satellite states from eastern Europe to gain entry, with their lingering communistic systems, corruption and crime rates to the sky, the EU sealed its fate.
And even considering admitting Turkey into the union...?
Give me break..Owe about offering US statehood to Iran..

  • The discovery that Apple (AAPL) automatically transmits to itself location information about users of its smartphones touches off a furor among iPhone owners and privacy advocates. The open cache of information "[opens] the door for a jealous spouse, thief, or even a crafty trojan to take a detailed look at your whereabouts," Ars Technica writes. Sen. Al Franken asks, Why does Apple collect this info?  [View news story]
anyone who believes that google collected info inadvertently, will believe anything.... google is the most intrusive and sinister spy organisation in the world, with solid ties to the US Gov.... anybody using gmail or google search have no privacy whatsoever...copies of every webpage visited, every email sent and received is saved forever on humongous servers...your political leaning is easily ascertained...do you click in on the weekly standard, or the daily kos...
I try to protect my privacy by always logging on with TOR, and for email I use hushmail.com (check it out)

  • How to Protect Apple Profits Ahead of Earnings [View article]
the course of action on this will be determined (at least for me) by aapl behavior after the results are announced... if as usual there is a substantial gap up, I will take the money in the after market and run. there may be massive profit taking, causing a subsequent drop.
if there is a substantial run up before the results,I may get out at that time..
I am sitting on a 7000 profit on only 2 leaps, and I sure as heck dont want to watch it evaporate...
    good luck...

  • How to Protect Apple Profits Ahead of Earnings [View article]
I am trying to make sense of tuvocs transaction..if aaple goes to say 340 at expiration, he will have a profit of 42.000 on the 290 calls.(50.000 less 8000 premium paid.
he will deliver the shares on the 330 written call at a 10.000 loss, less the premium collected 9.200 for a net loss of 800. leaving a net profit of 41.200.
seems to me he just capped his potential profit. if the stock keep going up the gains on the bought calls are offset by an equal loss on the sold calls...am I wrong here...?

  • How to Protect Apple Profits Ahead of Earnings [View article]
this is of course a possibility, and not a way I would go normally.. but a rapid 15% drop in aapl on a earnings release is highly unlikely.
other events, such as a bad report on steve jobs health, or his demise, could cause this scenario, and I would be a buyer on a major dip. I believe that the majority of aapl product users have no idea, and dont care, who the ceo is.
