    Macro,

If you want proof, just cherrypick a basket of stocks that beat the indexes the past 30 years. That's no different than cherrypicking a basket of indexes to prove they beat a cherrypicked basket of fund managers.

    Macro,

Good point. For all I know, you might be retired or still living in your Mom's basement.

    Perhaps both.

    Jack,

the feckless League of nations would have prevented WW2? Jack, what are you smoking,? It must be primo. It's interesting that you blame the isolationist republicans in an effort to prove the neocons (who didn't even exist then) were the root cause of WW2.

As for the rest, well nice try. I'll give you a C- minus for effort.

    Macro,

"his is the case of looking back in time and picking stocks instead of looking forward in time"

As is every case of backtesting posed as evidence that any strategy would have beaten something or someone.

    Macro,

I already said why. I enjoy my life of leisure. I don't need to supplement my income either by managing others' money or by writing a ton of SA articles for those penny-a-page views.

But I'm happy to contribute my pennies to your retirement fund. Maybe one day you'll be able to retire early as I did..

    Macro,

The only money I care to manage is my own. Managing money for others sounds like work. I prefer my life of leisure.

    Macro,

You're a peach. The MPT-pushing RIAs and index funds industry must love you.

I'm not convinced however, and as long as my cash flow continues to trounce any indexes, I'll happily stay retired with my individual stocks.

    Macro,

No, you don't see. I never said all individual investors make a killiing. But I will say that individual investors have a tougher go if they pay high management fees.

Individual investors also won't get rich investing in index funds. In fact, they won't even match the indexes once management fees - no matter how small - are extracted.

I'm glad you agree. Life becomes clearer when you ditch the political fairy tale version of history and accept the truth.

    Macro,

Fund managers are a good reason to make your own investment decisions.

I'm talking about individual investors however.

Maybe you should have spent less time being politically "active" and more time learning the facts.

    Macro,

Tax cuts didn't end the surplus, that surplus evaporated with the dotcom bubble. The surplus was never really there anyway.

    Macro,

Stop listening to RIAs who get rich not by investing, but by skimmining off a portion of assets. I've never met a rich [person who made their fortune investing in index funds.

But, If you really feel that way, put all your money in the S&P, then come back in 40 years and we'll see who did better.

Winning the lottery would have made you more money as well. but that doesn't make buying lottery tickets a superior strategy.
