  • I Don't Understand Dividends [View article]

I like, no actually I LOVE getting my money back (and without having to sell anything) , that's why I invest.

As for a corporation's ability to put money to work, I offer exhibit A - AAPL and its $100 billion cash hoard. Maybe they're saving up to buy MSFT?

  • Are Dividend Stocks A Substitute For Bonds? [View article]

Too many want to be spoon-fed.

I just read a comment where someone was truly upset: He had been blindly following a prediction (from some often-published SA author) about a major, impending market drop and had gone 100 percent cash based on that prediction. The drop hasn't yet come true... and the author apparently took a few weeks off for Christmas. The commenter was complaining because he felt abandoned, here he is, all in cash, and can't decide what to do next...

  • The Dumb Dividend Idea [View article]
"2) Dividend stocks did not offer much protection from the recent downdraft."
Which is why I added to my positions in the recent downturn.

  • Dividends Matter If They Matter To You [View article]

" you're just making a strawman, to continue the phony "war". Truly sad."

Mike was expressing his views, and he did a fine job of it. He didn't name any names. There was no strawman. You're perpetrating this "phony war" by continually bringing it up.

  • Dividend Growth Investors: Do They Have A Point Or Is It Too Close To Call? [View article]

"You think your (david fish's or any other DGI investor's) portfolio returns will beat mine on an ongoing basis?"

There's nothing to think about. We haven't seen your portfolio.

"in no case will I be posting positions to be reverse engineered. "

Very wise. The Chinese are reading SA in hopes you'll give something away and they can reverse engineering your "proprietary strategy".

  • Why We Are Keynesians [View article]
"Mortgage lending became a volume business, robosigning and all. "

Sure, the banks deserve much of the blame.

But you left out the part of a government eager to promote home ownership for all, especially the least of the credit-worthy IE a blindly willing populace that believed home prices would only double in two years, and last, but not least, an overly accomodative Fed providing the juice.

  • Stop The Presses: Academics Confirm That Buffett's Success Is No Mystery [View article]

" feel free to further ignore people that make a living by trying to figure out what works and have over $90 bn in funds under management in order to feed your stereotypes :) "

No offense taken. As always, I was speaking only for myself.

I was referring to the stereotype of the academic and nothing else.
I understand the concept of trying to "find what works", but "funds under management" mean little to me. They're as much a reflection of good salesmanship as anything else.

  • The Real False God Of Dividends [View article]

Great, detailed example of how the world really works!

So for all the doubters unable to see such impeccable logic, , let's pick two hypothetical, identical companies ten years ago, one that didn't pay dividends, let's call it Cisco. And one that did pay dividends, let's call it Philip Morris...
