Boeing (BA) and the Speea union, which represents 23K engineers and technical workers at the company, suspend negotiations over a new contract until 2013 following a request from federal mediators amid an impasse in the talks. Speea earlier this week made moves to prevent a wildcat strike that was due for yesterday, but has encouraged engineers to refuse voluntary overtime and to "work to rule." [View news story]
Boeing and its employees now have a chance to make many sales and bring profit to themselves and the US. This is no time for the engineers to hinder Boeing's chance to increase its sales nor for management to be greedy. Simply give a portion of the profits for the year to the employees as a bonus while a reasonable contract is obtained. This will encourage the workers to be as productive as possible as they will be rewarded for their efforts. As a stock holder in Boeing, I sure as hell would rather see my dividends somewhat lower than I would to see the company lose business due to loss of business.
Something that has not mentioned is the fine management to workers relations. Smuckers is listed as one of the best companies for which to work resulting in great loyalty of the workers. I would consider this a major positive factor for investing in the company.
