The problem is the way Apple define itself. They see themselves as creators of great products (devices). Even iTunes is considered an aid to sell devices. They must cross the boundaries and limitations of hardware thinking, production, verticalization, etc.. This article is good and valid for Apple but not enough. Google is crossing boundaries all the time as they do not see themselves just as a search provider. I think Apple is in great danger, if they do not start to eat their own children others will do. By the way I am total fan of Apple but really worried lately.
3D Systems: Has The Printer Jammed? [View article]
Excellent analysis. I wish all articles here were written this way. I was considering a position with DDD but the incredible PE was always a big concern. Do you think SSYS is a good alternative investment in 3D printing?
People still thinking in terms of devices. Forget devices. It is the ecosystem. Ask people that switched to Apple if they want switch back. Unless somebody produces something like a miracle Apple won't be displaced. I do agree that Microsoft has the power to dent a share and Nokia could benefit from that. In fact, the fight is between Apple, Microsoft and Google. Everybody else is can't turn the wheel.
Is Apple Waking Up Another Sleeping Giant In Microsoft? [View article]
Microsoft will always be an important competitor. They have the money and resources to be wrong a few times but you have to remember they are in various markets with a myriad of products. So it won't be easy to compete in all these fronts. This time Apple has the cash and the momentum.
As a final thought: Microsoft and Google gave up the idea of a platform not vertically integrated as Apple. The user experience is inferior. So they will have to battle in Apple's turf, where it excels. Microsoft announced its tablet. Hope it is not a Zune. I think they can do better this time. Amazon is not a threat at all basically it is just a device not an ecosystem and it will never be. Google had the best shot in my opinion. Lastly but not least, I DO NOT KNOW ANYONE WHO HAS SWITCHED TO AN APPLE PRODUCT THAT HAS COME BACK!!!!
It is incredible! Although the argument around an entry price point and a premium one has been exhausted in the business literature some folks still don't get it. Apple does not want and it will never be the monopolistic as Microsoft once was. People still expecting Apple to conquer all in all markets. Open your eyes, all the possible profit it has been wisely collected by Apple, hugely. Others live on remains or below profit. And consider that 125B in cash can give a lot of remaining power. Besides, Apps are much better than browsing. Better integration and user experience.
Microsoft Is Betting The Industry On Windows 8 [View article]
Interesting, but you have to understand the following: Microsoft users that went to Apple will never come back. Presently it is a very different situation you are comparing. You are ignoring a complete ecosystem that Apple had created. Very hard to replace not mention the fact that Microsoft does not control the whole experience since it has to rely on manufactures. They always undermine the purity of design and inevitable add components trying to differentiate themselves. The very reason they failure. Besides that the reliability offered by Apple products is clearly superior. I've been using every single manufacturer along the years like HP, Samsung, Acer, Dell, Lenovo, IBM.
Tired Of 'There's An App For That'? [View article]
Apps are so much better than browsing. Anyone that remotely understands software and user interaction knows that. The specificity that an app can provide is clearly superior. People tend to forget the origins of a browser and HTML and what it was designed for.
Apple: What 'Dynamic Carrier Selection' Means For Investors [View article]
I am a huge fan and investor of Apple but to really confront all carriers of the world would be a daunting task. Certainly the carriers understand the treat and for sure they will not stand still. Even with 100 billion in cash I do not think Apple would dare to do it although it seems logical and a much more elegant model. The carriers are dying to add value to their pipeline. That's the reason China Mobile has not get along so far. They want a piece (a sizable one) of the value. To stand apart Apple has to advance the technology of iPhone so much at each generation in order to maintain the desire and consumer motivation. This is a daunting task itself.
Excellent article. I've been tracking the VXAPL agains the VIX. Plot this chart and you will find it very interesting. It is clear to see the forces around AAPL in contrast to the overall market.
Hollywood's DVD Problem Is Different Than The Music Industry's CD Problem [View article]
Another reason to buy CDs: the bitrate. For those caring for the best sound nothing compares to CD quality. It is a lot of bits to download if you thinking about CD quality. There is no service providing it and probably it will never be.
The Tech Bubble Is Back: It's 1999 All Over Again [View article]
Although your arguments are not new I thing it is worthwhile to take in consideration. Many people forget that fundamental analysis is well fundamental and in the long run the true is finally established. As a day trader I am aware that at someday the market will wake up and finally realize how immaterial some valuations are and the correction will be fast, really fast. I do think although Facebook has a nice shot. They have to make a lot of mistakes to miss the opportunity.

Brian,
It is funny. Your article sounds like your are not based on fundamental analysis but neither relying on technical. Nobody is pumping AAPl. In fact is exact the opposite. Many articles pointed that despite incredible fundamentals and technical analysis pointing for a possible rally the stock has move very moderate behaving like a low beta. Like I said before it may not be the perfect stock but try a week chart from any period larger than 3 months. You will see where it will go. Easily
