  • Why BlackBerry's Gain Was A Mirage [View article]
yongzhou, give it time. They said the same thing about Canada and it sells as well as the iPhone here.

  • Why BlackBerry's Gain Was A Mirage [View article]
If it came out in 2007, it wouldn't have had the QNX micro kernel as its base. That is what makes the BB 10 OS superior to the other OSes out there.
So being this late is a blessing in disguise in two ways.
    1) Taking longer to start allowed them to start with a better foundation.
    2) Taking longer to start drove down the shares and allowed me to buy them dirt cheap.

  • Z10: Zero Sold On Friday, But None Left On Sunday [View article]
This is exactly what happened in Canada. And they are selling as well as the iPhone in Canada even now.
You should have asked for a comparison in Z10 to iPhone 5 sales.
Why would someone take an hour off of their workday on Friday when they can just go there on Saturday?

  • Research In Motion (RIMM +6%) has given up some of the premarket gains it saw due to Goldman's upgrade, but is still sharply higher. Goldman only gives BlackBerry 10 a 30% chance of success, though it does see the OS delivering a 21% Y/Y increase in RIM's ASP in FY14 (ends in Feb.) to $270. It now expects RIM to earn $0.20/share in FY14, but foresees a $0.62/share loss for FY15, as declining emerging markets sales weigh on results. IDC recently estimated both iOS and Android are now seeing stronger business purchase activity than BlackBerry. [View news story]
I think everyone knows that BB phones currently are not as sexy as the other platforms but to extend the curve beyond the BB10 phones release is just silly. A former RIM hater now says the new alpha dev devices are better than anything currently on the market for Android. And he isn't even seeing the new hardware and all of the software.
People who have seen it rave about it. It will take off.

  • Research in Motion (RIMM) soars 11.9% premarket on a Goldman upgrade to Buy with price target of $16 (from $9). "For the first time in 3 years, we think out-year Street estimates are too low." [View news story]

When will investors start to think for themselves?

  • Android Is Dead, Part 1: Why [View article]
Can you maybe look at iPhone share of new phone sales before commenting?
They are nothing more than a niche product.
The iPad is a different story.

  • Shares of Research In Motion (RIMM) jet 14.2% higher premarket, apparently fueled by enthusiasm over the impending launch of Blackberry 10 devices. With the new product, National Bank's Kris Thompson now expects to ship close to 35.5M devices devices in FY14 after early estimates called for 31.6M. RIMM trades at its highest level since June. [View news story]
You don't think it has something to do with RIM being up over 17% in Toronto and the US market catching up to that?

  • Research In Motion - Possible $43 Stock Price In 12 Months? [View article]
I think he is basing this on feedback from carriers. Maybe his company does a survey of carriers on their feeling towards BB10 and the carriers really like it.
If they do, they may be instructing their salespeople to push people towards it instead of iPhones or Androids which will increase sales dramatically.
Can you imagine going into a store looking for an iPhone or Android phone and the salesperson says "Hey, you should look at the new BlackBerries. They are really selling well. They have a whole new Operating System and lots of apps".
Wouldn't you consider looking at it if you heard that?

  • Will BlackBerry 10 Put Research In Motion Back In Motion? [View article]
I guess the best security doesn't count for anything? Or the NFC capabilities.
And why does it have to be better. If it is just as good, although you admit that Balance is better and seem to have left off security , I will consider it. People switch phones for all kinds of reasons. And Apple isn't even the biggest selling phone anymore.
I don't look at last years models of TVs when I am buying a new one, why would I care about last years model of phone when I am buying this year's model?
And why talk about the decline in revenues when we all know that will change when the new phones come out and RIM can charge more? They are selling lower cost phones and making money from the BIS services in the other parts of the world. They will be selling more expensive phones here and also be making money off of their BIS services in North America. Next year will be a good year for RIM. The question is just if they can keep that momentum going.

I don't think the brand has been damaged. It let the ball slip and no one is mad at them about it, except shareholders.
Their former customers just went elsewhere and will consider them again when their new phones come out and their contracts are up.
As for RIM's network going down being a big deal, it is only a big deal because it is so important to people.
How many times has Apple's iMessage servers gone down. Nobody seems to care because they are irrelevant. And what about Google's servers. They went down not too long ago but nobody seems to care because they are just not important.
RIM's severs have gone down very few times over the life of the company.
Hopefully they will build in more redundancies so if they do, the services will be rerouted. The cost may well be worth it.

  • Invest Like Kevin O'Leary [View article]
Maybe it is a good thing RIM never paid out dividends because it now has mortgage free properties and over $2 Billion in the bank.
If it was giving out dividends, where would it be?
Too many companies give out dividends during good times and then end up in financial trouble when the economy falters or their businesses suffer a slump.
Look at the auto companies, for example.

I don't think Kevin O'Leary made his fortune investing. Didn't he sell his company? So he made it building a company.

  • QNX: RIM's Trojan Horse [View article]
Another revenue stream is their NOC network. Much of this B2B communication can take place through their secured networks instead of the wild west internet.
I believe RIM has been upgrading their Network Operations Centres to handle the increased bandwidth.
Another thing many analysts completely overlook.

  • Apple Vs. Research In Motion: The Winner Is ... [View article]
What is a 5-10 bagger? I assume you are using a baseball analogy and saying a hit better than a home run.
But what does that mean in terms of stock price improvement?
    Just $11, or possibly $20?
