  • Disney / Marvel Deal Bad for 'House of Mouse' - Citibank [View article]
Sure, Spider-Man and the X-Men might be tied up with deals... but these are most likely with some kind of shared revenue stream.

I can't imagine that Marvel would have signed a lump-sum indefinite deal with Sony. So, yes, Disney won't be able to make or market the future movies, but they'll still get some good royalty revenues from them.

  • Cautious on Apple's Plan to Extend Digital Payment Processing Business [View article]
There is potential for Apple to do better than others here. Micropayments - Apple bundles multiple $1 track sales into a single credit card transaction to save CC transaction fees. If they do this for 3rd party sales too, the $1-$5 transactions would be MUCH cheaper via Apple than with PayPal.

  • RIM Wants in on Nortel's Wireless Action, But Why? [View article]

  • Some Like it Hot: Pirate Capital Initiates Stake in Starwood Hotels & Resorts [View article]
Pirate just finished it's purchase of Intrawest a little while ago. My un-researched guess would be that this little stake in HOT is probably something that Intrawest had in it's holdings. A quick Google for Intrawest + Starwood shows at least one partnership, which is not unexpected given both companies sizes and similar markets.
