  • Dominion's Cove Point gas export facility gets Maryland OK [View news story]
I live in the neighborhood next to this project. The "benefits" are few for the people and plentiful for Dominion. I would love to see your comments if they built this thing in your back yard where you would have the pleasure of all the noise that will accompany this 'beneficial' plant. The decrease in property values should be nice too. But what do most of you care, it's not your home.

I live in the town this is being built. The construction jobs are temporary and the long term "benefits" will be about 10 jobs paying 100k+ a year. Meanwhile, over 6000 homes are affected by this company. Maybe you should come move here, property values will be nice and cheap for ya in a few years.

  • Report: Rio Tinto considering making a bid for Turquoise Hill [View news story]
I agree that this stock has nowhere to go but up at this point. they paid off their outstanding loan from RIO and have been in operation for half a year now. This entire sell off is rather silly because I recall reading a press release about TRQ having buyers for their product. Let's not forget they are also a gold and silver mine not just copper so the decrease in copper is automatically hedged by the gold deposits that will be mined. As far as the government of Mongolia, I still feel that a steady cash flow of 33% of total profits will make them push forward; Especially, with their currency in free fall from those bonds. I'm no expert, but with the valuations that TRQ was talking about and with current valuations this stock should still hit $10 before the underground part is even finished. My goal is to get out at that level and walk away with a healthy profit. een long on this for about two years now and have been buying on the dollar dips every time. Up to 4420 shares but hey who's counting?

Well with this rights offering your price target should have been halved yes? Hopefully management keeps some cash in the purse to help the shares over the long term.

My take is that that 26% drop was it.

  • Turquoise Hill -27% as trading begins on rights issue [View news story]
joelc how long have you been following this stock? I have been for about 2 years now and have managed to make a few bucks here and there off it. However, the biggest issue with this stock is that the government of Mongolia keeps hindering progress. If they had not been so harldine on TRQ in the early days this mine would have been making money already. My understanding is that TRQ called in RIO because they didn't have the capital to play the politics. One of my fears now as a small shareholder, 1404 and I'll up it with the offering, is that now that production is about to start on the open pit mine RIO is trying to push down share price to an attractive level to get more controlling stake in the company. Seems like it is working. The date of record for the additional share buying is the 6th of November and TRQ traded with unusually high volume this week thanks to that 26% drop. Meaning RIO will have to buy any shares that are not held by us small investors. Again, while I think this company has enormous potential, it is not an investment for the faint of heart or short term.

I have been buying on each full 1 dollar drop as a way to at least break even along with writing call option that will never be filled. Has helped a bit in the short term at least.

Good luck and I hope you are right.

  • Turquoise Hill founder to participate in rights issue [View news story]
If you are long this won't matter in the long run. This stock could still hit $10 by 2020 when the underground mine is operational. This however does not bode well for short term investors.

    @smezzancello

If you are living off this investment you need to sell. This is not a stock for gains in a year or even 5. This mine in Mongolia will be fully operational by the time I retire, I'm 28 now.

What this offering means is that depending on how many shares you hold on the third of December you will be offered to buy an equal number of shares at the price they offer. To be honest not a big deal for small fish like you and I. I personally own just over 400 shares because I keep buying on huge dips to offset loses. I am holding this as a long term investment because I feel that at some point this company will make a profit, there are reasons for my thinking this.

If you want to purchase your additional shares you will need to tell your broker who will be getting the information via the company. I have attached link to the PDF file on TRQ's company website. HOWEVER, if you are not in for the end game on this stock i/e 5 - 10 years by my guess, with all these delays maybe longer :/ Don;t expect this stock to move anywhere but lower.

    good luck.

  • Turquoise Hill rallies after filing prospectus for rights offering [View news story]
If all goes well and this company stops hemorrhaging money next year, the stock should head back up regardless of the extra shares. Their debt load will wiped out from this offering and cash will be coming in! Let's hope management doesn't mess this up. I too am long.

Better question why did the stock go down, while MSFT goes up? Aren't both in industries that are considered dying? I find both of these companies similar; both are diversified. heidemman56152 brings up a good point, both MO and MSFT are never spoken about in their diversification. MO has Miller holdings and PM, while Microsoft has Xbox. The only thing I can think of is that these other area are not enough to push the stock up and are not reported individually for that reason. Ahhhhhh investing :) If it made sense everyone would be doing it lol.

Short MO. Previously a holder of MSFT.

  • Replacing Turquoise Hill With First Quantum Minerals [View article]
This is simple. Once TRQ shows a positive balance sheet in the next 2 ~ 3 quarters it will go up. This $10PPS talk is conservative at best. The economy goes up and down in waves the fact that no one can think longer term is pretty scary actually. I myself am Long TRQ and RIO and every time they hit new lows I buy in more.

  • Turquoise Hill Will Rise Again [View article]
Every time this stock hits new lows I buy more. I'm a novice investor but young and have a high risk appetite. I also am smart enough to know that in time this company will be operating one of the largest mines in the world. Let's also not forget that it is also next to Russia another emerging economic power house.

Over a long enough period of time this stock will head up. the question is just how high will it go up?
