People like Tomi were probably very very influential in locking Nokia into the strategy of keeping Symbian for so long, even in the face of iPhones success.
Stephan's Elop's strategy of dumping Symbian had the simultaneous effect of unceremoniously ejecting them permanently the company
BKS (barns and noble) are shipping Google Android devices complete with Google play store. Nothing they have done is dependant upon Microsoft. Apart from owing MSFT $300million.
The fact that their Android device is failing to sell is an illustration that Android is no panacea.
Microsoft Chooses The Nook-Ular Option [View article]
You want Microsoft to directly compete with Amazon, in a business which does not generate much revenue let alone profit, with a Nook tablet no on is buying....
Microsoft Chooses The Nook-Ular Option [View article]
Nonsense. Microsoft should just let the Nook die and BKS burn with it. It is a complete waste of money. They could use a fraction of that money to bribe Amazon and then make better Kindle/book apps for windows devices and be done.
After Microsoft put $300 million real dollars into Nook, they were unable to do anything interesting for Windows/Microsoft. Please explain why incorporating that result directly into Microsoft would make a difference??
Barron's is out with its list of the 500 financially strongest companies as ranked after a rigorous cash and sales analysis. A quick filter on the list shows a good chunk of the names trade with a single-digit price to earnings ratio including Goodyear Tire & Rubber (GT). Despite all the buzz about booming auto sales in the U.S. and China, concerns about growth for Goodyear's products in other regions of the globe have lowered expectations. But with auto sale estimates for full-year being taken higher, Goodyear could see enough consistent revenue growth to justify a higher trading multiple. @Boshie,
Quoting the author: "The forecasts suggest that Windows tablets are expected to remain small in the market. Windows 8 tablets are expected to achieve a 7.4% share by 2017...."
Well its 2013 .. and Strategy Analytics are reporting Windows Tablet share at 7.5%
Apple (AAPL) -3.4% to $392.50 as the Street continues digesting the light FQ3 guidance provided with its FQ2 beat. BMO's Keith Bachman has cut shares to Market Perform after recently expressing concerns about iPhone mix. "We think the challenges of 1) increased competitiveness in the smartphone market, which we believe will pressure ASPs and margins – will largely offset 2) improved capital allocation." In a set of charts analyzing Apple's results, Dan Frommer points out the iPad is now 20% of sales, and iTunes/Software/Services 9% (the iPhone is 53%). (previous) (transcript) [View news story]
@Peterscollector The components used by Samsung in it flagship are generally of a much higher specification that the apple..... This is why Samsung has taken share. Many investors have also reasoned that Samsung tech will continue to outpace Apple and continue to loose share.
Interesting thing is that Media Centre TV, Smartphone, Tablets and Smart watches (SPOT) are all things Gates/MSFT tried to push in the early 2000s..
So the pattern is to look back ten years to see what's technologies/ideas have lagged or been abandoned, then apply die shrinks, improved storage, battery efficiency, allowing bigger better software.. features....etc..
Question is, is that a enough for a company which has taken the lead in the technology industry?
The Nokia Problem Remains Broadly The Same But There's Some Hope [View article]
I'm wondering why someone would choose a Nokia Android Lumia over a HTC One, or a Samsung S4/3.
Remember HTC was a first mover with Android.
so ..Before Nokia chooses to make an Android Lumia, they would need to first need to explain why Samsung takes a monopoly of Android phone profits compared to HTC and all the other Android vendors.
Nokia would first need to explain why it would do better, or even come a good 2nd against Samsung
