  • Holiday Shopping Deal On Ram Power Shares [View article]
Well, what a disappointing earnings call! I suppose the only consolation is that the remediated wells are still in thermal recovery mode and cycling up and down. Hopefully we'll see a couple extra MW of power but I don't see Ram as being any less caught between a rock and a hard place. One can only hope potential suitors will
    bid generously for the project/company....

No but seriously look at market internals and intermarket relationships. They don't look as pretty as the indices as upward momentum fades....

I'd hoped the PPA would have had a larger annual percentage increase than that after they renegotiated it. I wonder how Gas Natural could claim it was losing money down here before TSK Melfosur bought out Disnorte/Dissur from them. Theft of power is rampant and the ailing infrastructure doesn't help either. By some estimates 30% losses are normal in Nicaragua. This year the government started cracking down on theft of power though. If they can succeed in reducing losses perhaps a new PPA can be negotiated with higher rates and greater yearly increases to better match local conditions.
That's an encouraging interpretation of the conference call! I was wondering about them talking up the developing of the Casita project while exploring suitors for the company. A JV would be another interesting option rather than
just selling the company or project. Why give up that cashflow? I look forward
to more excellent commentary on here from all.

The CFO stated "$49 million to $52 million assuming average production of approximately 52 megawatts to 55 megawatts net and company EBITDA of $34 million to $37 million." So if they could average 60+MWh going forward with the addition of 9-3 we'd be looking at earnings over $60 million surely? Would that be enough to generate positive earnings and keep the wolves from the door?
Tom Konrad used a number of 50million EBITDA to come up with his share price of 25-50cents. Any company would thus be getting the other assets for free. I'd far rather see Ram pursue the Casita development and the Binary generator addition to SJT before flogging the company

"Keeping in mind that Well SJ 9-3 is not tied into the gathering system the plant is currently operating between 54 and 57 megawatts gross as Well SJ 12-3 continues to cycle. While it's still too early to determine the exact megawatts we have gained as a result of the program we will continue to monitor the stabilization of 9-3 and 12-3 going forward and we will have further updates as needed."
D Lane you're right! 54-57 Gross currently and if 9-3 is tied in without further hitch then we're on the right track. I'm wondering about their earnings projections of only 49-52 Million. If they were producing about 41 MWh for the last few months of 2013 then shouldn't earnings jump considerably more if they manage to add another 20MWh or so of generation capacity? Are they not being very conservative? I bought some more shares today also.

Interesting conference call - so we have 52-55MWh without well 9-3 which was cycling 7-10MWh. If they can tie that in successfully without further issues we are on target for 60+MWh and a much healthier cashflow than last year. I assume that the prospective buyers of Ram will have to pay a decent multiple for the project now. Geysers is sold and things are looking up finally, I suppose!

So with recent the recent remediation comments in the year end results news release am I reading it right that generation capacity has been raised to a level of 56-62MWh?
At current PPA pricing they should be getting around 9cents/kWh where current consumer rates are close to 25cents/kWh. I would hope that the PPA can get closer to the previously cited wholesale figure of 17cents/kWh. I hope the company can renegotiate a better deal with the new owner of Disnorte/Dissur, TSK Melfosur and the Nicaraguan government that now has greater control. The FSLN are aggressively expanding rural electrification and upgrading the shaky grid. Even though they claim to have over 1000MWh of generation capacity they desperately need more capacity and especially more renewables to reach their goal of 90% renewable generation by 2020. http://bit.ly/1kjoaT7
All this should put San Jacinto Tizate in a good position provided the company can execute and do a better job at Casita IMHO. I'm still holding and waiting for what potential suitors might emerge....

  • Why Gold Is Falling & A Gold Forecast You May Not Like [View instapost]
Gold has fallen since the announcement of QE3 on September 2012 and began the bottoming process in June 2013 on the announcement of tapering by Bernanke. Since tapering has begun Gold has essentially rallied. Coincidence?
While the current sell off is unsettling, the opposite may be true to the authors article above. If Yellen cannot jawbone people to borrow today for fear of higher rates tomorrow then RIR's will stay negative and bond yields will stay depressed or reach new lows. All IMHO.

I'm concerned and am watching but does copper still have a PhD in economics? Otherwise it is a strange environment for Yellen to be talking about rate hikes.
