  • Smith & Wesson (SWHC -3.1%) and Sturm, Ruger (RGR -1.7%) trade lower with gun control legislation a major topic of political discussion following the tragic event in Connecticut. Though predictions of a gun demand rush is the knee-jerk reaction of some traders to the news gun laws could be tightened, others see the +200M firearms already in circulation and biting comments from pro-gun members of Congress as a sign the companies' fortunes could be altered. [View news story]
S&W & RGR's sales are thru the roof but Mr. Market over reacts to bad news. If only there was an armed security guard or teacher in Newtown to neutralize the shooter! How ironic, that Conn. Is the home of both of the above firms! How can we keep guns & bombs out of the hands of zealots, terrorists, psychopaths & psychos? How many insane people have drivers licenses? Too many. Too many nut jobs, too many problems worldwide. Greater protection from these elements means more armed security, surveillance, scanners. Schools will require airport - security. More legally armed sane citizens more police, security ect. are the only deterrents. Body scanners in all public venues? Public nudity is looking better, maybe not. Big Brother here we go!

I am 65 years young, reside in Houston. Longtime hunter, fishing, sports fan. Love outdoors, sailing, golf, hiking, ice skating big on after ski. Too bad Jack Reacher was not in Newtown! Ironic that Conn. is home to both of the only publicly traded gun cos! Mr. Market over reacts to bad news. Society needs protection from terrorists, zealots, psychopaths, psychos ect. but where & how? Legally armed teachers & sane citizens with better background checks would be a deterrent against the forces of evil but Big Brother is now in play. Meanwhile my gun stocks are shot down by Mr. Market, one fast drawing dude!
