  • The Truth About Micron: Brace For Impact [View article]
Short Sellers in Micron (MU) Move on after Brutal Year

The mild pullback in Micron Technology (NASDAQ: MU) shares has seen short sellers in the stock cut and run. According to the latest data noted by Bloomberg, short interest in Micron over the last month is down 40% to 4.4% of the shares outstanding. Despite the recent pullback, shares of Micron are up 8.2% in December and 244% year-to-date, illustrating the pain being on the short side of the trade.

Can Diamond refinance the debt ? It seems that a lower rate would save the company a lot of money.

  • Micron: Why It Is Truly Different This Time [View article]
MU must read SA too :)

    Look at the followng Q & A:
    Glen Yeung - Citi
Here is one also sort of a generic question is that, year ago would have been farce to ask Micron, I’ll ask it now anyway. What is your intended use of the cash between buyback, M&A, dividend or something else?

Kipp Bedard - Vice President, Investor Relations
You bet. I think Mark Durcan, our President said it loud and clear in August Analyst Day. Number one, he wants to get the debt-to-capital back down post Elpida that will be up into the high 30s, where Mark comfortable with that running 20% to 25%. He’ll probably more likely do that through repurchasing the converts that are out there then I think there will be some additional buying of the coverts to not so much to impact so we did debt-to-cap but to reduce the number of shares outstanding.

So he and the Board definitely have a Phase 1 get the debt back down to where we are comfortable and Phase 2 is continue to take shares out of the market and then Phase 3 is find the way to get capital back to the shareholders.

Then look at RJackson's comments in another MU thread a few weeks ago:
I fear there is zero chance of a dividend until:

    1. They buy back or buy capped calls on the convertibles. These babies are seriously dilutive. Excess funds should go drag these out asap.

    2. Take out some of their debt to get their rating up, and then roll-over and extend some of the balance.

    3. Start a buy-back program to offset the dilution of their stock option programs.

    4. Figure out what they will need to keep up with Mr. Sams and Mr. SK (which now has a deep pocket daddy), and fund the capex.

If the above doesn't suck up all of their free cash, well then maybe a dividend. Problem with dividends is not a great idea for highly cyclical companies, which some day, memory may once again become.
