  • Lumber Liquidators' Campaign Of Distraction And Deception [View article]
I can't get past the fact that regulators haven't even pulled the product from the shelves... if carb hasn't seen fit to do that, then I really can't believe in the seriousness of the issue...Tilson may be 100% correct re the test results (as I believe he likely is) but the reaction of the regulators speaks volumes with regard to the actual risk of the product...

Ventilate yes, but if the smell still doesn't dissipate... then consider ripping up the flooring... you forgot to mention that part...

I highlighted a crucial point for you... You say "they said the product was safe to use as intended"... To summarize, the link I provided indicates the flooring could be giving off fumes, particularly early in the installation... open your windows and ventilate your home until the smell goes away... if it doesn't then consider ripping up the floor. Now, most folks aren't going to like the fact that LL sold them non-compliant materials and many may - rightfully or wrongfully - even claim it made them sick. There is significant liability here it's simply a matter of how much it ends up being... and that doesn't even consider whether the deception was perpetrated knowingly or not...

Zueter: That's a valid argument... that perhaps the damage to LL isn't going to be as bad as is currently reflected in the stock price... but to suggest that everything is fine and dandy and there won't be a problem is absurd. It's simply a question of how bad the damage will end up being.

Wow... "they said the product was safe to use as intended"... then they followed that up by saying 'the CARB regs are utterly baseless and we should never have issued them'... in fact we are recommending that California get rid of the CARB folks altogether... they aren't worth a hill of beans...

Please anyone read for themselves CARB's position

Ericmls1e: You said "They also brought up a very relevant point, why didn't anyone on 60 minutes ask them if the product was safe."

So you are saying that if 60 Mins had just asked the CARB would have told them "Don't worry. The product is perfectly safe."

    Laughable...

Again, see my comment just above yours... attacking the people who made the standard and calling the standards they set stupid doesn't change anything...

So she told you something that contradicts the official agency position statement on things ? Yes or no ?

Note there are attempts to allay fears/avoid panic and everyone tearing up their floors in that position statement...

And equally there is counsel about opening windows, airing out product, etc... etc...

Yes... call them yourself and potentially speak to the clerk who picks up the phone or simply read their official position on things...

Clerk vs. official written position statement, hmmm which one should I stake my money on ?

Again, attack the standard and the people who created it... EPA seems about to create the same standard... foolish argument: California standards are stupid therefore they can be violated...

I believe I replied to this exact same post on another thread... this is bunk. So CARB said what 60 Mins demonstrated was no big deal ? That their own standards are meaningless ? CARB has a written statement to which the 60 Mins "update" from Sunday linked... http://bit.ly/1wJZEBi

See for yourself what CARB's position is in writing...

My point exactly Expat... people can denounce the CARB standards as ridiculous all day long but the standard existed presumably for a reason and it was violated in a big way it would seem... Apparently the argument is that one can ignore standards as long as you feel they aren't reasonable... Why bother having standards then ? Makes zero sense in my mind.

Matt, why are there CARB standards if they mean nothing ? i.e. you can inhale more formaldehyde from being near someone who smokes ?

If you can answer that question reasonably I think it would go a long way toward helping people understand this.

  • Why I Significantly Increased My Lumber Liquidators Short Position In The Last Two Days [View article]
Yes... this issue makes sense to me now... the fact that a California seller's product is multiple times outside of the standards is no big deal to the regulator and 60 mins had no need to bring it to the forefront... And CA residents shouldn't worry at all because 60 mins didn't test CA product... they should ignore the test results provided by the nonprofit which was on the 60 mins show that said they did test CA product -apart from the 60 mins testing- which produced the same results as the 60 mins testing...

All making sense to me now....
