  • An Overdue Major Stock-Market Selloff Is Looming [View article]
That is why there are hedge funds - for times of fully valued markets. Go long an undervalued index such as the EEM and short an overvalued index such as IWO. In up markets or down or in a market crash it should be profitable over time.

  • SolarCity: Fears Are Overblown And Valuation Is Inexpensive [View article]
Although it may seem tempting to buy after this drop, I don't believe SC will see it's previous high for many years - if ever. It seems management is incompetent judging by their late financials and high S&A costs. Assumptions about the life of a solar array being 30 years without becoming obsolete and an eyesore seem unrealistic. Issues such as customer default and moving homes seem to be ignored. The retained value calculation does not take into account the ongoing operating costs. I would argue it has no retained value currently given that if it stopped installing panels today and stopped all marketing and reduced administration it would be unlikely to make a profit for many years, if ever. Growth of leased systems going forward should be subdued because of the financing alternatives that have become more available. If anything it should trade at a discount to retained value, not a multiple of it.

The gold boards remind me of the apple boards. 95% pro and obsessively, rudely, virulently so. When everyone is positive - go negative.

  • Should You Buy Overvalued SolarCity? [View article]
In calculating their embedded lease values Solar City is working off expected 30 year leases. I think that is too long. 15 years is about it.

But a 12 year old solar system will be outdated and look awful. What buyer wants to take that on?

why would anyone be talking about when to buy a stock that is falling long term. That's like shorting Netflix. Don't catch a falling knife. The 2 year trend is down. Sure buy a stock that is off 5% in a medium to long term uptrend

  • Yes, Apple Still Is A 'No-Brainer' [View article]
The people on here never cease to amaze me. It's more like a support group crying into it's beer than a forum.

Just as blackberry missed the touchscreen and collapsed, apple missed larger screens and is now behind everyone else. Large phones of 8-10 inches can still fit in your pocket and will replace ipads. Steve Jobs was the innovator and driving force. The current management can't even get screen size right.

  • Apple beats estimates, but guidance disappoints [View news story]
    Judging from responses
    20% are folding
    80% are mimicking ostriches

The stock market is about the future - not the past. Apple missed the boat with phones that were too small.
