The accidents that have occurred at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant owned by Tokyo Electric Power [9501] (Buy; ¥1,221, 15 March close) in the wake of the Sendai earthquake have come to represent a critical situation. Many uncertainties remain as conditions are highly fluid and exposed to political forces. The shutting down of nuclear and thermal power plants, meanwhile, has caused concerns about power supplies. We would thus like to review the situation regarding supply and demand of electricity and look at the capacity for power to be supplied. We also profile companies likely to play a role in enhancing the safety of existing nuclear power facilities and inspecting them in preparation for the resumption of operations.
Wall Street’s Infinite Loop: How Apple Is Valued [View article]
Six Reasons why you short Apple 3 out 6
1-Negative. note out today from Rodman & Renshaw talking about how Apple will fall short of St forecasts for CQ4 iPad sales (Rodman thinks will come in ~ 5MM vs. the St @ 6MM)
2-Investor Heebner revealing that he has sold his whole stake in the company (this was talked about in DJ and BBG articles)….some articles on the web talking about how "big money dumping Apple"
3-The INTC price cuts for SSDs could make Windows notebooks more competitive against the new MacBook Airs for people looking for SSD-based laptops
Dendreon Still Faces 65 / 35 Odds of Provenge Approval [View article]
Michael Shulmans article on DNDN could be the most reasonable article Ive read on this topic for sometime. Any of you thinking Provenge is a lay up to be approved then you should email me and I will tell you more because this drug is very much still a 50/50 bet. First off-
1)this drug does not cure cancer so stop thinking it does, t all it does is prolong the life-span of a terminal cancer patient by a like a couple weeks to a few months.
2)- the control groups that were done in the studies have been suspect from the very beginning, there was a stage 3 trial they had to discontinue because the patients using the provenge were dieing faster than the patients using the placebo. Sure Denedreon says the reason for this occurring was the patients were not screened very well and the patients that died faster than the ones taking the placebo were further along the terminal stages of cancer, good excuse. So the next study they conducted showed more promising data showing there were positive results. What you should be aware is that if that trial they conducted didnt show positive data then the lights in the building were going to be turned off. They had very little operating capital available before they released the data.
3)Then the day after they reported the data the CEO starts selling his stock. Why would someone do that if they knew the drug trials were bulletproof? I wont accept the reason for the sale of his stock was for estate purposes because he sold over 50% of his holdings.
4) If you think Health Insurance companies are going to cover the costs of this treatment then tell me were you buy your weed cause that's some good stuff your smoking.
