  • Belviq's Sales Will Disappoint: Demographics Matter [View article]
history is littered with big shorts who had their *****es kicked bigtime - GMCR, FSLR to name a couple which recently blew out the shorts... shorts are too too over-confident here maintaining that 'belviq will sell poorly'.

I think the shorts are wrong. Belviq will sell rather well. With 250 lbs, if there's a pill out there (with little side-effects) that helps me lose 5% ie 12-13 lbs, I will happily seek it out. I have tried losing weight in the past and I tell you, its bloody difficult to lose even a few pounds.

Shorts should start covering their positions. Arena mgmt is not idiotic, they are already being courted by bigger players who want in badly.

The author makes good points but per my reasoning/calculations, Belviq is going to be a great product and will sell rather well.

SIRI's market cap is almost $20 billion. One's got to take a look at that hefty market cap before looking at other fundamentals. It ain't a $300 million market cap new company anymore.

and I think yes, the yen is in the process of bottoming out. Their neighbors and euro zone exporters can only tolerate so much. So the yen goes back to 110-112 in the short term

I agree - I have long felt that there are folks in Japan who are correctly thinking or planning to put in place (if they have not already) policies to revive their nuclear plants again. One incident (yes, it was pretty major) but in light of the bigger picture (economy over a few decades type time frame), they got to get their nuclear power generation back in place and running, collateral damage and all.

If they had their imports controlled (aka reduced their OIL dependence), then this move may have worked out for them. Now as of today, if US stops their printing presses (like Bernanke/team are thinking about doing per todays minutes), then oil goes down, and their imports stabilize so Japan may do ok with their move. But then US hurts bad. Which is it going to be -- US hurting bad with their QE done policy OR Japan hurting with their soaring oil imports ? Only Goldman knows.

japan making a big mistake here IMHO. their exporters win, but their imports SOAR due to this stupidly-thought-out yen devaluation. They better stabilize their yen in a week or two fast, lest their SOARING imports kill their economy (not that its not already killed over the last 15 years bad policies). They need to take finance/economics 101, IMHO.

I agree with some of your points about fundamentals being the real driver and if it were not for improving fundamentals over the last 30 years or so, Dow would still be at 800. Now what I disagree with is that the fundamentals today look good as far as corporate balance sheets go, but just look at the rates. If everything is so hunky dory, why are interest rates stuck at 0% ? clearly the apple is rotten -- if it were a healthy growing fruit, rates would have risen alongwith improving fundamentals. Pl be courteous and respect my time and effort when you reply. Thanks

and till then diabetic americans continue to be deprived of belviq that could have saved lives.

shouldn't some one investigate into this delay ? is it some hedge funds who are heavily short the stock or is it some geniuine question on the drug by the committee ? we want the truth..

I have set an stop buy order to trigger when ARNA breaks through 12, which should happen sometime in the next 3 months.

And after that, its off to the races with the launch buzz.
