  • Tibco: A Big Data Turn-Around Play That Could Double [View article]
Hi there interesting article, it may be that tibco is close to turning around...but i have a query...you said the earnings release showed positive numbers... well i looked at the numbers both sequentially and this quarter compared to last quarter, and i had a different perspective.
Numbers from what i can tell are still soft. Usually Q/Q growth from year to year is up in double digits...however, this quarter there is a +4% increase.....and usually 2q is mildly positive (low single digits) vs Q1..however q213 grew at -0.13%....whereas the last 5 years were all positive between 3%-8% growth, and the average is 6.25%.
So while the story is a very interesting one, fundamentally speaking i might wait to see if 3q has at least q313/q312 rev growth of at least 10-12%+ and sequential q3 to q2 increase of 5%+.

Infact you could have even let us know at $15 on May 3rd after the unexpectedly positive results came out and we would have still made some money.

  • Is YRC Worldwide On The Brink Of A Turnaround? [View article]
I must say i find it amazing that the stock price has risen 4x from the low, and then someone comes out asking if a turnaround has begun....

wouldn't it have been more useful to investors if you had let us know when the stock was $6,$7,$8,$9??

I can take a look at the chart without even reading the article or knowing anything about the company and confidently say to everyone....a turnaround most definitely has begun!

  • Yields Of 6-18%: Unconventional Investments, Unconventional Returns [View article]
It would be very helpful if someone could actually go through a numerical example of this with one stock in an article....

I am trying to invest money for my mother and have stayed away from these kind of stocks or indeed stocks like PSEC etc because i am worried about the loss of capital.....instead I put her money in bonds with maturities of 1-5 years , with running yields of 6-8.5% in companies like Morgan stanley, starwood, tyson foods....
and every year some of her money will free up giviing her a new opportunity.

  • A Fallen Apple Equals A Gift To Investors Even If Sales And Margins Decline [View article]
Apart from sounding like the sun shines out of his backend when Apple seem to have very poor execution these days?

Ashraf, i've read plenty of your pieces, follow you, and i have huge respect for you...i'd like to tell you the mistakes i think they made...based on my experiences as a big shareholder of apple, and a consumer of these type of products...not as an expert by any means.

I bought the stock at about $387 late 2011 for my kids college fund. Once it broke out of the range, i started to add all the way up to about $640. I was making loads of dosh and I was enamoured. I did all my DCFs and concluded that the price was underlined at about $550ish in a worst case of no growth, and that the upside was $1000+. Before adding to my position, i decided to try out the Samsung products....trying S3 coincided with an Apple price of about $700, and i ended up selling my Apple stock for about $640 as i was convinced that Samsung is going to do to Apple what Apple did to BB. This comes from a frothing Apple bull.

(After selling my shares i shorted Apple and went long Google, but ended the trade after losing my nerve).

Apple sell products which are not hugely different anymore from other makers, but the prices are higher. Z10, S3,S4, Note II and others they more or less all look the same and do the same.... If you came down from Mars, and looked at all these phones without being affected by the years of brand building...you would say, well, S3 is cheaper, more flexible, easy to use, and i'm not stuck in this infuriating ecosystem. Ok, Apple has its merits....but im not convinced its an easy choice for most people anymore.

What products to apple have in the pipeline? A watch? Very original....Apple TV....old news.
Did you read about the device attached to shoes which tells us when to change them? I don't know about you, but i know when i need to reheel my shoes.

The 'IT' product...a step forward in my view is google glass.... also i have seen a youtube video on some cool new products/ direction that MSFT is going on - i hope they actually turn them into commercial applications which are affordable.

Having said all of this...from a sentiment standpoint i would say AAPL is getting interesting. Hated.

I haven't seen anything mind blowing from Apple.... have you?
