  • A Close Look At The 2016 Sirius XM Subscriber Guidance  [View article]
Since content does matter, it is likely that when internet service becomes standard in autos, SXM, being superior in content to other internet sources, will have another revenue stream coming from autos and perhaps eventually decreasing its need for satellites resulting in less capex expense.

Once again, the writer of this article emphasizes percentage rate rather than numbers. The NUMBER of used car self paying conversion subs continues to increase, resulting in increased revenue for the company.

What the writer of this article does not say directly is that while the penetration rate has increased, the NUMBER of self pay conversions has also increased resulting in increased revenue for the company. Rather, using the decreasing conversion rate as the measure, it appears that there is a decreasing number of net new subs which of course is simply not consistent with the increasing number of net new self paying subs in recent years. Further to be objective, rather than using worst case scenario of only 1.4 million net new subs for 2016, it would be much fairer to use a number that is between the beginning company guidance of 1.4M(which the company has consistently increased throughout each year) and the 2.3 million that occurred in 2015 which has been an increasing number since the number of new cars produced has been increasing.each year.

Thanks, Sirifair, you saved me the time and effort from saying the same thing.

what the commenter does not take into account is the fact that the number and percentage of used cars(to total cars) on the road continue to increase which means that this revenue stream is far from peaking and will more than make up for any decline in the new car conversion rate.

Frear's comment about being wrong again about the used car conversion rate for the last 5 years reminds me of the Einstein quote along the lines of- about the definition of insanity of expecting a different result when all the factors remain the same. There is nothing on the horizon that would suggest a different result than has occurred in the last 5 years with respect to the low 30% sub conversion rate from the used car sector.

While uber conservative 2016 guidance may not be the primary reason that the sp has fallen greater than the general trend of the market, it certainly wil help the company buyback stock at a lower price when it is able to based on SEC rule which prevents the company from buying stock between 5 weeks before to 2 weeks after the quarterly report. Since the sp is theoretically based on the future of the company, to those who are unfamiliar with the company policy of guiding ultra low, they think that the company is headed for a major catastrophe. To those of us that know the way the company guides, we just shake our heads and wonder when it will change. In the meantime, all that is happening is that the FCF, revenue, EBITDA, self paying subs continue to increase. As a very long investor in SXM, I am content to wait for the day that the market recognizes the value of this company is going to propel the sp to new heights. This year, the total subs will be above 30M, a number that the naysayers stated would be unlikely to happen.

  • A Christmas List For Sirius XM - Number 4  [View article]
With the holiday season upon us and in my opinion, the author having written the most objective, creative and laughing out loud article ever written by the author on the subject of SXM, I have taken time away from our ongoing skirmishing to wish the author the best outcomes that he wishes for himself and his family for the New Year. May he learn from the overwhelming number of commenters who, while they disagree with him on SXM, both the company and the stock, took his balanced, thoughtful and unusual manner in which he presented the facts and thanked him for writing this article.
Best Wishes to all for a very prosperous and healthy New Year!

I do not get paid to comment so I certainly will not spend the time to research your statements. I Trust my recollection. Those that have followed your articles published concerning SXM know what you have stated and that is sufficient. My comments are meant to set the record straight. If you take it as trying to discredit you that is on you.

The company has already stated that unpaid new car trials are not counted in the conversion rate. This is something that the author had railed about in the past when the definition of the conversion rate was modified by the company. Perhaps the author should consider that one should not hold his breath until he acknowledges this.
The author deems to know the reason that paid promotional subs do not convert. He does not know because he has not done a canvassing of those people. Just an assumption that the author presents as fact. Talk about a purveyor of misinformation. I suggest the author look in the mirror before he accuses others.

There he goes again. The author intentionally focuses and overstates the negative side and purposely does not clarify his statement when he states, "60%-70% of the folks that get trials feel the way that you do...It's not worth the money". In fact, MORE than 40% of the folks that get free(paid by manufacturer) trials on new cars convert to self-paying subs and MORE than 30% of the folks that get free(paid by manufacturer) trials on used cars convert to self-paying subs. SXM's conversion rate is higher than virtually all other audio and video sub services.

The fact that the author claims that the used car conversion rate may or may not have decreased because the company, in his opinion, has only disclosed the rate in terms that are too broad to quantify does not make it so.

I disagree with the author's assessment of what the mind set is of used car buyers concerning subscribing to SXM. Many used car buyers may feel that it is a luxury at a relatively low price(there are several sub options available not just the full price sub) that they can afford since they are buying a used rather than a new auto.
Additionally, the used car sub conversion rate has not decreased since it has become a significant recurring revenue stream and there is no valid reason why it should not continue to maintain its pattern at the current conversion rate and perhaps even increase.
