  • Nokia: Finding $0.40-3.70 Upside In The Black Box [View article]
I would rather have that usd 26 billion in NOK's cash position than in the pockets of those former shareholders that sold their shares. So all earlier buybacks may have been the biggest mistake what NOK has done. Who knows that without wasting that money NOK might have made better decisions back in 2008-2011...

I compare the buybacks to dividends, only that the money goes to the sellers and not to all shareholders. And in many cases it is wasted money from the perspective of company and remaining shareholder.

I'd prefer NOK with a strong cash position when it negotiates with competitors or other buyers of its businesses, or just continues with the current structure. With a weak balance sheet sharks (GOOG, Samsung, APPL, MSFT) eat you for lunch. Now one day before D&S sale balance sheet is weak and next week it's not too strong at all.

One wild guess. NOK's businesses sold as follows:

    1. NSN. NokiaSamsungNetworks.
    2. Here. MSFT still has too much of cash and lacks mobile services.
    3. Patents. LBO by patent troll investors.

Cash flow to NOK shareholders EUR 10-12/share.

  • Can Nokia Breach $8.50 Now That China Approved The D&S Sale To Microsoft? [View article]
    36x. No.

3,6x would be a good start.

I thought BBRY's business is devices & services... and mostly in USA. BBRY is a dead horse and NOK doesn't need an expensive dead horse just when it's getting rid of one.

About the potential of patents with Samsung and AAPL:

    Some guidance to NOK execs:

No BBRY deal as suggested here. Two losers don't make a winner (meaning their D&S business).

No AUL deal. Only their core network business (in USA i guess) is thinkable.

No buybacks. NOK wasted USD 26 billion on buybacks. What if it had the money now? In my view buybacks almost destroyed the company and that money is away from current shareholders.

Monetize the patent portfolio, make Samsung and AAPL pay their shirts off.

Don't be afraid to be boring after D&S deal with MSFT is done and money is on the bank account. No hurry to spend it or waste it (M&A, extra dividend, buybacks). NOK has plenty to do with it's current businesses and it has great potential to make it's shareholders to prosper.

  • Nokia-Microsoft deal approved by Chinese regulators; Nokia +4.7% [View news story]
I rephrase my question. Can Indian authorities or the local badwill arising from the Chennai affect the Indian telecom companies on their decisions from whom they order their networks?

How important India's market is for NSN and is NSN affected if NOK walks away from Chennai?

Neither MSFT nor NOK wants the Chennai factory after all this blackmailing from Indian authorities. Impossible environment to conduct a business and it must be difficult to find a buyer for the factory. So how to get rid of it with minimum damage?

"Furthermore, the ongoing discussions with the Chinese authorities indicate that the existing licensing agreements will likely remain unchanged and the company will have to supplement revenue from the other patents in the portfolio."

Where is the evidence for this (licencing agreements remain unchanged)?

Maybe far fetched but what happens if China does not approve the D&S deal?

  • Nokia - Will The Tables Ever Turn? [View article]
Indian tax dispute, meaning whether to keep the Chennai factory or to run it down, is peanuts. What is huge for NOK is the Chinese (= Huawei, ZTE etc.) and Korean (=Samsung) authorities demanding NOK to give most of the patents almost free for their use.

  • Nokia: A Buy, Hold Or Sell After Delayed Microsoft Deal? [View article]
Not a very deep analysis of the situation.

The risk of the D+S deal falling apart has increased. Huawei, ZTE and Samsung are putting pressure on their governments not to approve the deal without NOK and MS giving up the leverage of their patent portfolio. For MS not a big deal but for NOK...

And you know Samsung is South-Korea and Chinese do what ever they will.
