  • Carl Icahn has taken a 6% stake in Dell (DELL +0.9%), CNBC reports. Shares have jumped to $14.25 on the news, putting them 4.4% above Dell's $13.65/share LBO price. If the report is true, Southeastern Asset and other shareholders fighting for a higher bid just got themselves a big ally. (earlier[View news story]
Perhaps the question is: what do we know about Dell AND Carl Ichan from which we might profit?

    Thanks for stepping up Sammy.

Like the energy etf as well, for similar reasons. If, picking a stock there- I like Bakken for a spike- NOG in particular.

Thanks too for pointing out the function of VXZ, definitely different.
May be a good insurance choice.

The normal Malaysian procedure is to provide a period to prove safety & environmental compliance.

A prior project by Mitsubishi left Malaysia with a mess to deal with.

Now, they are being prudent. Lynas has done things right, and as with any new technology- tweaks and refinements will continue.

Additionally, Lynas has let a $36million contract to implement Phase II of Mount Weld concentrator expansion. Similarly a Phase II for Malaysian LAMP operations is well under development.

The Duncan data which Lynas reported on January 18th, along with other increase resource at Mount Weld, make Lynas the richest resource in the world.

And, no mention in this piece?

To not mention Lynas and their advanced status, seems curious.

How could a serious coverage of this space not include Lynas?

Lynas & Molycorp production, that is, into deliverable oxides has yet to come on-line.

Lynas [ADR (LYSDY.PK)] being green-lighted by the Malaysian authorities on Wednesday, is a huge milestone. Since the refining plant there is nearly complete, Lynas should actually be in production in the next few months, particularly since they have been stock-piling mined resources from Mount Weld while waiting.

To not include Lynas and to opine that MCP would be "first to market" and "suitable for any investor interested in the rare earth space" seems peculiar.

Yes, MCP diluted since the piece was written and Lynas got the green-light from Malaysia and will be actually producing in a few months...but why didn't the autor update the article using this comments feature instead of waiting to react?

Lynas will be first to market and has discovered plenty to expand into the future, Molycorp is still figuring things out.

Pride or not, what odds or handicap do you envision?

Lynas will be in production in 1st half of 2012, Mount Weld is the richest and perhaps the largest of rare earth resources, they have partners and solid financing on place...no thanks, no bet!

With treasury auctions going under-subscribed at present, one wonders what happens as the world rotates from its status as the reserve currency. Whether by increment or by bounds.

Should Venezuela (Russia) and or others force oil into being denominated in other than dollars, the goose that laid (or printed) those golden darlings, may become even more mal-nourished.
