  • The Opinion That Brought Down Vringo [View article]
No real income to speak of an a decent cash burn. Don't think Scotus will hear it and that will be done. Google income was going fund the ongoing battles and next wave of Nokia fights...not sure if managment is really going to be able to keep the lawyers at the firm and don't see ZTE settling anytime soon so probably another 2 years without real revenue. Nokia patents get sold and the rest of this breaks up at this point I think.

  • Vringo Rated As Rotten: The Company Shows Why You Don't Speculate On "Patent Trolls" [View article]
VRNG did everything right. Management beat Google at every turn and lost with an interpretation of Alice that didn't even exists when the the case was filed or won. Google did the only thing that they could, delay and hope for a Hail Mary which happens once in a while. What this has done is devalued every IP patent, illegitimized the USPTO and has raised the real issue that the court process for very technical IP type work needs to go through a different process, probably without juries.

  • Vringo: Next Steps After A Disappointing Decision Versus Google [View article]
Just another nail in the American judicial process. After 3 years of endless delays, millions of dollars after an ignorant jury and judge are asked to rule on something they had neither the background or sklls to judge, this happens. This wasn't as big a loss for VRNG as it was for the patent process, the USPTO and our judicial system being able to sit on IP cases. This was an arrow through the heart of the defendability of R&D invention. The road is clear now. Ignore patents if it offers you an advantage, fight it for 3-5 years and wait for an opportunity.

With Putin sanctioning any food from the West, and bumper corn, soy and wheat crops, my guess is we are going to see all time lows in these crop prices...thankfully as you note, the Fed will disregard and ignore that we are heading into Japan style deflation.

  • Alpha Natural Resources beats by $0.19, beats on revenue [View news story]
Let's be clear...less important is the beat:beat headline...this company had sales down 22% YOY and is losing $0.56 a share...unsustainable regardless of the headline.

  • USPTO to review VirnetX patent at Microsoft's request [View news story]
Endless reviews. Shouldn't actually being awarded the patent be enough? Why the endless doublechecking...seems like no one thinks the USPTO does enough up front.

Fantastic information but PRs should also indicate the progress on Alaska North Slope, at every possibility. Financing in place, deals being made and profitable on current Q and huge growth both in CA and in Alaska future.

  • Arch Coal +3.5% on smaller than expected loss, cost controls improve [View news story]
So, let me get this right; ACI loses 46 cents a share as Q2 sales fell 7% but operating costs fell 3% so this is clearly unsustainable. They also lowered volume targets and are closing mines...yeah, but they beat some kid's guesstimate so the stock is up. Nice.

  • VirnetX: A CAFC View Through A Clear Lens [View article]
Wow, nice article Tom...you triangulate the issue well and I do like the point about the 8 cases where this is the last one and one month past Rader's retirement and no third judge has been assigned. That having been said, when might a third be added regardless of this case? ST issue could be the interpretation of the judge addition as being a deadlock on this case (unless we could see he/she wasn't assigned to this which I guess would be the case as he/she would have no history on the case).

  • Chart O' The Day: Global Food Prices Are Deflating [View article]
Truly everyone has their own personal inflation rate. Personally, my costs are stilted towards, energy, food (in and out) and college. Taxes, insurance, pharma, leisure are all going up but perhaps the health deductibles is the one hit most people are taking which has soaked up more disposable income in the last 2 years than expected which makes everything else "feel" more expensive as well.
