  • NL Industries: Why Hanker After Children When The Parent Comes Cheap?  [View article]
It is my understanding NL owns 87% of CIX and CIX owns 30% of KRO which if correct reduces the numbers you are projecting. I am not sure by any significant amount or not. The pigment division for HUN was down on their recent reporting which will probably impact KRO earnings report Tuesday as well. I have been trying to decide whether to invest in KRO before this earning report and potentially catch the bounce or wait and see how the report turns out. Sometimes playing earnings is like putting your hand in the fire. LOL

  • David Einhorn, who giveth new life (General Motors) and taketh away (Green Mountain Coffee Roasters), now has Chipotle (CMG -6.5%) in his sights. His short thesis on the "nosebleed" valuation name focuses on Taco Bell and its updated Cantina Bell menu - despite previous reports tipping off that the effect has been minimal. Naturally, shares of Chipotle are diving off the Einhorn takedown.  [View news story]
Sounds like a description of a wrestling match. LOL

  • One solution to the corn shortage (and perhaps a more productive use of capital than an investment in Facebook): 3D steaks. Peter Thiel's Breakout Labs has made an investment in Modern Meadow which aims to bypass livestock by combining regenerative medicine with 3D printing to create edible meat.  [View news story]

  • Carbonite (CARB) CEO David Friend admits the decision to withdraw from sponsoring the Rush Limbaugh show after the radio host called a woman a "slut" on the air didn't pay off for shareholders. CARB's Q2 results missed growth targets and its stock price fell 15%. Friend says that while he stands by the decision, the move caused "a bigger hole in our revenue than we thought."  [View news story]
The decision to distant yourselves from that pompous ass was certainly correct, but to blame your companies demise on that decision is wrong.

  • Interesting action in the Chicago pits today, where old crop (Sept) corn soared another $0.18 to a record $8.13, but new crop (Dec, March) fell, the spread between the two shooting higher late in the session. The divergence suggests at least some optimism for a reasonable crop to come in, no? CORN -2.3% as the action in the new crop months overwhelmed the record price move.   [View news story]

Paulo whats driving wheat is that the expected short fall of corn requires these guys to use wheat in its place thus the need to get their future needs booked. This is my view of what is happening in the wheat commodities market.

Mix a little rain with extremely hot temperatures should pretty well finish off non irrigated corn. When I say finish off I do not mean in a good way.
