  • Netflix Competitive Battle Heats Up [View article]
COMPETITION IS GOOD FOR NETFLIX. The real competitive dynamic is between walled garden (cable and satellite) and over the top (Netflix, Amazon, Redbox, Hulu etc.). If there is a critical mass of OTA content then people will turn off their video package from the cable companies and just use the cable modem. With the saved money they can purchase 3-4 of these $6-$8 per month OTA video services. In sum Netflix will probably not assemble a critical mass of OTA content to produce mass cord cutting. Netflix needs the help of other OTA players to spend real dollars on content in order to create the critical mass that will enable a very large shift to OTA.
