  • Molycorp Earnings Preview: What To Look For [View article]
China wants regulation over the industry and an end to over exploitation of their resources. Their goal is to consolidate the industry under a few rare earth giants. Before the industry overhaul and it is still in the process there were hundreds of rare earth mines following no environmental standards and offering any price. Now 5 to 10 companies are going to supply the entire worlds rare earth needs and Molycorp is a big player in that.

Also 150 million in general expenses so 350 plus X. At least 1 billion in revenue so do the math. 1.1B minus (350m + X)

The Chlor alkili will save them minimum of 5 dollars per kg. Production costs are in mid to low teens and expected to go down to 6 or 7 per kg. so at least 100 million. Probably more like 120 to 130 if I had to guess. And yes it's based on phase 1 production levels.

The missing piece of info is what are their costs besides feedstock, chemicals and wastewater haulage which will all be mitigated in time. Basically costs from running all their facilities and the processing of materials. Obviously mining too but those costs are known max 200 million a year.

It will save them at least 100 million annually. Also when looking at their costs now keep in mind they are having to purchase feedstock for their downstream processing. when project Phoenix comes online that wont be the case. Also volumes and prices are expected to increase. Bearish in the short term

Well demand is soft because so many customers bought forward back in 2010. Now they are working through these inventories and waiting for to see how low prices will fall before they restock.

Exactly molycorp is only worth 2 something if the company fails completely and in that case it is worth nothing.

A stocks price depends on earnings or anticipated earnings not book value. How can you judge a company who sells rare earths when they haven't started selling rare earths. You all argue pointless points.

    Ok we'll see.

Once the Chlor alkali plant is running and phase one run rates are reached... I'll give them one or two more bad quarters

  • Avoid Molycorp: Inventory Overstated By $134MM [View article]
I mean if you believe the stock is undervalued you are not really overpaying. It's basically how cheap you're getting it or how much much you're underpaying. But I do see your point as to finding a correct entry point if you so choose.

In the end is the current market value of their inventory all that important? You can write stuff up and down all day and its not gong to affect cash flow.

My analysis is if you look more than a quarter or two out and believe project Phoenix will be successfully completed molycorp is significantly undervalued.
