  • T-Mobile's No-Contract Plan Is A Winner [View article]
Funny, I couldn't get any one from T-Mobile to sell me that. They kept bending me over every month for excessive texting and/or data. No one I talked to mentioned such a plan, so I moved on.

I looked at their month to month plan and it didn't meet my needs. Their new plan does. But I all I really care about is the investment opportunity going forward, and the market will sort that out.

If T-Mobile had these plans 2 months ago I would not have switched to Net 10, which is only slightly cheaper and doesn't allow international roaming (which I don't use much but like to have). My thinking now is that this T-Mobile move will have the largest impact MVNO's.

Tony, I fear I've given the wrong impression. I intend to do all within my power to reduce the power and influence of the federal government. Ideally I'd like to see a functioning congress that could reduce spending and enact reasonable reforms. In the meantime I'll settle for gridlock.

Agreed Macro. Unfortunately, congress reflects the citizenship, perhaps if they were required to pass a budget rather than spending bills...I see no achievable solution.

So there should be no limit to government spending and debt? Or am I missing something?

  • Why Q4 Could Be Quite "Special" For Stocks: Positioning Your Portfolio [View article]
No_eyes, large special dividends have different rules. In the case of SCMR the ex-div date is Oct 12. What that means is that Oct 12 is the first date that the stock trades without its dividend.

John and Alan, Oct 12 is the ex-div date for the SCMR special dividend. The stock can be purchased up to the 11th and still receive the dividend. I assume the price will drop on the 12th.

JRF77, I don't have nearly your position size, but I've considered allowing my shares to be loaned out for shorting just so the squeeze will be bigger when it happens.

Todd, if I may ask, how do you hedge your mREIT positions? Perhaps the answer is obvious, but mREITs are new to me.
