  • What You Need To Know About The New Surface Pro 3 [View article]
Bulky with 12" screen? Surprisingly I am looking for a 13/14" tablet (Like a A4 size bunch of paper) with upto 9mm thick for super portability and powerful work experience.

    Right.

Most of the PC's are one-third the cost of Mac. Days of Mac will vanish soon.

  • Doubling Down On Microsoft Surface: Second Time A Success? [View article]
    Thanks!

I still believe RT is a good product and can be a good competitor for both Ipad and Android if they market it in that perspective.

This will have dual benefit of placing PRO as a distinct and premium product though they have a price limitation to Note pad/Laptop. People should have good reason not to buy Notepad/Laptop and go for PRO.

    I agree with you.
That's the question MS should answer and concentrate into.

  • Doubling Down On Microsoft Surface: Second Time A Success? [View article]
Microsoft failed to market RT properly and actually confused the public with identical name and look with Surface Pro. RT is actually a competitor for IPad and representing that sector which MS failed to clearly distinguish and communicate to the public.

The RT version should have been different name than 'Surface', should have been in a price range between $100 - $400, should have been of different screen sizes 6", 7", 8", 10" etc. Ideally should target Android tablet market and not Ipad.

Now compare RT with IPad or Android tablets:

    Build quality: at par
    Look: at par
Features: at par or better with touch version of MS Office products
Innovation: failed, a copy cat of IPad/Android.

What MS need to do is distinguish RT from PRO and name it/market it/price it accordingly and have some innovative features than Ipad/Android tablet.

  • "Smartphones and tablets based on Microsoft's (MSFT) Windows operating system aren't selling very well ... we're also seeing lackluster demand for Windows-based products," says Samsung Mobile chief JK Shin. While one could argue Samsung's commitment to Android and Tizen colors Shin's views, he's far from alone (I, II) in expressing such opinions. The remarks come in a week where IDC argued Microsoft is better off ditching ARM-based Windows RT and focusing on x86-based Windows 8. (Surface sales) (previous[View news story]
And for an experimental first step, consumer have to pay $1100.!!!

That's the real reason why Surface Pro failed. It should have been priced in the range of $400-$500.

  • I Invested In Microsoft But I Have More Than A Few Words For Steve Ballmer [View article]
With the current trend of users experience on Nokia Lumia, it can turn out to be a game changer for Nokia/MS provided MS plays it rightly. And I doubt that Balmer will play it rightly.

  • If You Think Microsoft Is Dying, You Need A Reality Check [View article]
    wrt your point No. 4

I heard that there are 5million legacy windows app (software/.exe/.com executable programs) as on date. All of them will be running in surface pro. Imagine your office software like SAP, oracle, or all accounting software that are running in your desktop or your favourite outlook express everything will be running in surface pro and you can access them dynamically or while on the move.
    Looks impressive.

  • Microsoft's Surface Pro: Price And Lack Of Usable Storage May Be A Killer [View article]
The negatives I am sure will be sorted out over a period of time. A full blown operating system in a tablet will obviously have some teething problems initially. But for sure it will be a game changer.

    Sorry Freekizh and it's OK.

On a positive note, I feel that it's a great eco-system and best synergy which can over the period of time, eliminate multiple devices. MSTF has more than 5million legacy app compared to IOS 500k and all these would be running on Surface Pro. wrt Surface, the app size has already touched 50k (few months back it was only 4k) and there is no reason why it will not increase over the period of time. (You hardly need around 10K real app rest are all duplicates, junks, games, fun etc.)

And with regards to price of $1100, there is no reason why it will not come down over a period of time when all its hardware partners like dell, asus, hp will come up with their own version and there will be real competition in the market.

And again there is no reason why the battery back up time will not improve over a period of time with new technology.

I feel that this is only a beginning and the right path where MSTF is moving.

I have a portable hard disc (weight/size etc. are almost same with mini tablet) which I some time carry with me and dock it in my laptop and work on it. I am just thinking replace it with Surface Pro. No more need to carry tablet or laptop. In my office I would have a big and sleek screen where I will dock my Surface Pro and work. I house and while travelling or while giving PP demo to client, I still can manage with Surface Pro with its touch interface.

You already spent $500+$400+$300, still carrying 3 machines together. And it seems that you need another one ($400), planning to buy iPad mini. So you will carry 4 items together. Still it seems that you need more.

Grow up man, go for a single device -Surface Pro

  • Microsoft's Surface Pro Will Be A Success [View article]
As an employee I use my laptop in four ways 1) at office 2) Carry it at home every day (to and fro) 3) carry it when I meet client or visit site and 4) carry it at my hometown when I am on long leave or even during holidays. So eventually it is always with me and I believe same scenario with everybody.

Laptop or Ultrabook weigh 3lbs, need a solid cover specially when you travel by air etc. (total weight no less than 4lbs). And 5lbs with some office documents in my laptop bag (very common scenario)

    Question is
    1. Am I to carry 4lbs every time?
    2. Can I work on my Laptop/Ultrabook while going home with Chauffer driven car (I still can do some last minute touch up/corrections in my Power Point or word file)
    3. Can I still do some minor touch-up work while relaxing and watching TV intermittently with my Laptop/Ultrabook in my lap?
    4. Do I need to open a big machine, plug-in, restart using my client's resources to do a power point presentation.

For all this, SP is better option. And as said, for serious work just dock it to big screen etc. (Nobody is going to do serious computing while on the move or while watching TV.

So where is the place for Desktop, Laptop, Ultrabook or IPad?

    Visualize scene 2 years later!!!

    Sorry for my English.
