  • Why Solazyme's High-Oleic Oils Are Needed Now [View article]
Here, here, sddd! Eyes glazing over would be the least of the info disclosure issues. There have to be some partner trade secrets to protect by not over sharing.

  • Solazyme Enters Into A New Era Focused On Commercial Development [View article]
Proterro is the key to making Solazyme's technology economical. They can easily compete using current sugar feedstocks in specialty oil markets, and even create many new marketable products, but Proterro's bioreactors give any country with the solar resources the possibility to set up bioreactors in series to produce food and fuel products locally. I see this as the potential economic trigger to make SZYM wildly successful. They will need to decide whether to go open source like Google, and play to many small installations, or stay proprietary like Apple, and stay with the large industrial fermentors. They will be successful either way.

  • Sangamo's Inevitable Acquisition/Merger [View article]
What's your take on ALNY? I sold them to buy SGMO after reading your April article, but still like them long run. They have tools for different types of fixes at the genetic level, and probably a larger potential set of clinical applications than SGMO, but I think they will take longer to manifest the business into really useful therapies because of the complexity and nuance of figuring out when to silence which gene and when to turn it and others back on. You convinced me that SGMO will have a better portfolio delivered sooner. Just wish I could afford both.
