  • The fate of job-seeking college graduates indicates the economy’s high levels of unemployment are cyclical in nature rather than structural, giving hope that stimulative policy can have a positive influence in helping firms create new jobs and bringing down U.S. unemployment, according to a San Francisco Fed study.  [View news story]
Hmmm...what about the fate of job-seeking middle aged white males with a bachelors degree?

  • It's understandable that consumers are holding back when 50M Americans depend on taxpayer supported programs, Mortimer Zuckerman writes. "Our increasingly anemic recovery may yet require the jolt of a substantial new stimulus, [but] it must not spook the bond market." Otherwise, "we'll have an economy that is neither certifiably dead nor robustly alive."  [View news story]
"we'll have an economy that is neither certifiably dead nor robustly alive." You mean like the one we have now?

  • Former Fannie Mae (FNMA.OB) chief Daniel Mudd gets notification that the SEC plans to pursue civil claims against him, making Mudd the latest target in an ongoing probe of whether financial firms were honest with investors about exposure to subprime loans.  [View news story]

  • Americans are failing to recognize the resilience of the U.S. economy, says Tony Tan Keng Yam, director of Singapore's sovereign wealth fund. He expects the U.S. economy to grow "above trend" at a rate of 4%-4.5% this year, and believes that the risk of inflation is very low because of slack in the economy.  [View news story]
Me thinks Tony has trouble recognizing reality. Or, is this just another shade of that tried and true stock scam - pump and dump? I guess that makes him either a fool or a liar.

  • "I can't imagine anything more disastrous to our country," says investor Sam Zell about his worry that the dollar loses reserve currency status. "An awesome benefit that no other country has," claims Zell, who says the end result of dollar weakness will be sharply lower living standards.  [View news story]
First, the US is not a Democracy. We are a Republic and there is a huge (and good) difference. Second, you talk about corruption and no respect for laws - have you looked at Obama, Eric Holder, most of the democratic party, a large portion of the republican party, unions, banks and Wall Street lately? Third, being number one in sports means nothing, in universities pretty much the same since we're only teaching foreigners who will go back to their country and compete against us and as far as WMD's, doesn't do you any good unless you have a Commander-in Chief with the cajones to use them.

  • Paul Krugman thinks budget hawks are confused by the meaning of "putting children first." He points to Texas, where government spending is low but so are rates of high school graduation and children without health insurance. It isn't just the cruelty, but the shortsightedness, he says. "What’s supposed to happen when today’s neglected children become tomorrow’s work force?"  [View news story]
If Krugman could "think" he wouldn't be spewing all the nonsense he does on a daily basis. Better to say "Krugman today vomited...."

  • Obama says he supports a proposal to allow states to obtain an early waiver from his health care law. "If you have a better way of doing it, help yourself," he tells a group of governors. Without specifically mentioning the protests in Wisconsin, he says, "I don't think it does anybody any good when public employees are denigrated or vilified or their rights are infringed upon."  [View news story]
Guess I missed the part in the prescription drug law that required me to buy drugs every month...

Yes, please, let's keep the vilification and and denigration confined strictly to those who (horrors) expect our elected officials to abide by, protect and defend the Constitution...

  • Egypt bans the export of all gold, including jewelery. "This decision, which comes in light of the exceptional circumstances the country is passing through... is to preserve the country's wealth until the situation stabilizes," official news agency MENA says.  [View news story]
Why would they want to ban the export of that old barbaric relic that is completely inedible. I mean it's not like gold acts as a store of value or anything like that. Isn't that what paper is for?/sarcasm off

  • Jobless Claims Fall as Oil Prices Rise [View article]
I think we better start thinking of them (the 99er's), and I'm included in that sad group, in terms of battalions. A wise man once said, when people lose it all, they lose it.
